XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Porsche 997 CARRERA-2/S 2005-2011

The 997 Carrera-2’s rear-engine weight bias introduces a handling equation on a gravel stage that few production cars share. Mass sitting aft of the rear axle loads the driven wheels generously for traction on loose surfaces, but the pendulum effect under mid-corner throttle changes or sudden compressions demands more suspension travel and composure than the factory setup was ever designed to provide.

Fitting the XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover to the 997 resets both of those variables. An inverted-tube damper body, extended stroke travel, and long springs calibrated for rough-terrain competition replace the road-going geometry with something capable of absorbing the impacts that gravel stages genuinely deliver – sustained high-frequency vibration, peak G-forces mid-corner, and the unpredictability of surfaces that shift from packed sandstone to loose silt within a single stage.

What this coilover does for your 2005-2011 Porsche 997 CARRERA-2/S

Extended stroke travel directly addresses the 997’s limited factory ground clearance, keeping the suspension working through rough compressions that would otherwise push a road damper towards its limits on broken sections. Long springs spread load inputs over a greater travel range, reducing the spike forces reaching the chassis and managing the 997’s rear-weight bias more predictably when the surface delivers uneven resistance between left and right. The inverted damper tube adds structural rigidity where a standard assembly would accumulate flex over a full rally day – consistent damping behaviour depends on the larger-diameter upper housing resisting lateral deflection stage after stage. Spring rates were tested and validated by a rally racing team, meaning the setup accounts for the actual load cycles of competitive gravel use, not road-performance approximations.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally series is designed specifically for stage rally and rally cross competition – the most demanding road-surface conditions in motorsport. At its core is an inverted damper tube, positioning the larger outer body at the top of the damper to resist the lateral loads and debris contact that gravel terrain delivers continuously throughout a stage. Travel and spring length exceed those of any road-performance coilover in the XYZ range, allowing the assembly to handle the extreme G-forces generated mid-turn at speed on loose surfaces, and to absorb the sustained chassis vibration produced by high-speed running on rough roads. The specification was developed to cover the full range of surfaces encountered in competitive rally use – from the relatively consistent compression behaviour of sandstone to the variable and unpredictable nature of silt and snow. Spring rate selection across the range was tested by rally racing teams, grounding the product in competition use rather than approximated data from a test rig.

Fitment for the Porsche 997 CARRERA-2/S (2005-2011)

This kit is listed for the Porsche 997 Carrera-2 and Carrera-2 S (XYZ chassis code PO04), covering the full 2005-2011 model run. The fitment applies to the rear-wheel-drive Carrera-2 variants only – not the Carrera 4 or Carrera 4S all-wheel-drive models. Confirm your chassis variant before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball top mountPillow ballPSolid pillow-ball (spherical bearing) upper — chosen for rigidity and precise camber adjustment, the sharpest steering response of the options.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
