XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Porsche 997 TURBO CARRERA-4 2005-2011

Porsche’s decision to hang the flat-six behind the rear axle is what defines how a 997 Turbo Carrera 4 behaves – on tarmac it is an asset, on gravel it becomes a variable that demands hardware built for the purpose. The rear weight bias loads the rear dampers disproportionately under compression on rough surfaces, and the PTM all-wheel drive system can only work with the traction it is given, so the shock absorber is doing more work here than on any front- or mid-engine rally platform.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Porsche 997 Turbo Carrera 4 (2005-2011) is built for competitive gravel-stage use: the kind of stages where the surface shifts from packed sandstone to silt to snow mid-run, and where sustained high-speed impacts would destroy a road or circuit-focused damper inside a handful of kilometres.

What this coilover does for your 2005-2011 Porsche 997 TURBO CARRERA-4

The inverted tube construction places the damper body lower and closer to the hub, reducing unsprung weight – which matters on a 997 where the rear axle is already managing the engine load. Long-stroke damper travel gives the suspension genuine range of motion over aggressive terrain, absorbing repeated chassis hits that would otherwise feed directly into the tub and compromise driver input. The long-spring configuration works alongside that extended stroke to maintain progressive wheel contact on loose and variable surfaces, keeping the PTM system in a position to direct drive where it can actually be used. Spring rates across the range come from real rally competition testing, not from road-car benchmarks adapted after the fact.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is XYZ Racing’s damper developed specifically for rally and rallycross competition, where road surface conditions are the most aggressive the sport produces. The inverted tube design – body below, shaft above – is a structural choice as much as a weight consideration: it keeps silt, mud, and debris clear of the shaft seal, which directly affects service life over a competitive event. Long stroke and long springs are the defining build specification, giving the damper the range to cope with everything gravel stages throw at a car: fast crests, deep ruts, and the lateral loads through high-speed corners where extreme G-force would compress a standard coilover to its bump stops. The design accommodates the full spectrum of loose-surface conditions – sandstone, compacted snow, deep silt – and all spring rate settings were validated by a rally racing team in competition rather than on a test bench.

Fitment for the Porsche 997 TURBO CARRERA-4 (2005-2011)

This kit is built to chassis code PO04-2, covering the Porsche 997 Turbo Carrera 4 across the full production span of 2005 to 2011. The fitment is specific to the all-wheel drive platform – confirm your variant against the chassis code before ordering, as the 997 range spans several distinct drivetrain configurations that do not share suspension geometry.

A 997 Turbo Carrera 4 on gravel is not a common configuration – the components need to be right for the platform. Confirm your chassis code and build yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball top mountPillow ballPSolid pillow-ball (spherical bearing) upper — chosen for rigidity and precise camber adjustment, the sharpest steering response of the options.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
