XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Porsche 993 CARRERA-2 1993-1998

The 993 Carrera-2’s pendulum – a 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six hanging behind the rear axle – loads the back tyres harder than any of its front-engined contemporaries on a sealed stage. That’s an advantage, but only if the rear suspension is calibrated to harvest it: too soft and the body moves enough to unload the outside rear tyre at exactly the moment the stage demands grip.

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover for the Porsche 993 CARRERA-2 (1993-1998) was developed directly from sealed-stage competition experience. The calibration starts from what the XYZ rally programme learned about managing the 993’s distinctive weight distribution through compressions and crests, not from a road-car ride quality target.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1998 Porsche 993 CARRERA-2

Suppressing body movement through high-speed undulations is the primary gain – on a properly set-up Tarmac Rally fitment, the front and rear tracks stay more consistently loaded through the elevation changes that expose a chassis at pace. The improved tyre contact means the C2’s rear-biased weight balance works as an asset rather than a liability when the surface deteriorates. Reduced body roll through the slower, technical sections lets the 993’s revised multi-link rear suspension – a significant step forward from the older trailing-arm 911 architecture – operate through its intended geometry range. The combined effect is a coilover that keeps the car beneath you in conditions where factory dampers start to feel out of their depth.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

Tarmac rally surfaces cover the full range from freshly laid smooth asphalt to roads that have absorbed years of agricultural traffic and frost damage – a coilover calibrated for only one end of that range is a liability mid-event. The XYZ Tarmac Rally range was built to absorb the sharp, large-amplitude inputs that appear when a sealed stage deteriorates, keeping the tyres in contact with the surface rather than trampolining over the worst sections. The damper calibration actively controls body movement – suppressing the chassis shake that lifts a tyre off the road – so grip is available at the exact moment the power or brakes are applied. Every setting in the Tarmac Rally spec derives from XYZ Racing’s own competition programme, which means the calibration reflects the conditions a driver will actually encounter on a real stage rather than a laboratory baseline. That competition-derived setup works with the 993’s inherent rear-engine dynamics rather than fighting them.

Fitment for the Porsche 993 CARRERA-2 (1993-1998)

This listing covers the Porsche 993 CARRERA-2, chassis code PO08, across the full production run from 1993 to 1998. The fitment applies to the rear-wheel drive Carrera-2 variant – not the Carrera-4 four-wheel drive platform, which uses a different front and rear subframe arrangement. Confirm your build sheet matches the C2 specification before ordering.
