XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Porsche 993 CARRERA-2 1993-1998

The 993 Carrera-2’s rear-engine architecture makes it one of the most demanding platforms to set up for loose-surface work. On gravel, that air-cooled flat-six hanging beyond the rear axle becomes a pendulum – generous travel and correctly tuned damping are the difference between controlled oversteer you can use and a moment you cannot catch. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover kit is built specifically for competitors running the 993 (PO08) in rally and rallycross events from 1993 through 1998.

This is not a road conversion with aggressive rates bolted on. The Gravel Rally specification draws on active development with rally racing teams, using long-stroke dampers and longer springs that let the suspension work through the full amplitude of loose-surface compressions – sandstone, snow, silt – rather than bottoming into the bump stops mid-stage.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1998 Porsche 993 CARRERA-2

On a loose stage, unsprung weight management and stroke length matter more than rate alone. The inverted tube construction reduces the reciprocating mass at the wheel end of the damper, helping the 993’s rear wheels track more consistently over rough crests where the standard geometry is already working hard. Extended spring and damper travel absorb the high-frequency impacts from gravel compressions before they load the rear axle and trigger the pendulum behaviour that makes air-cooled 993s difficult to catch mid-correction. Spring rate settings across this kit have been developed and verified through active rally competition, not laboratory simulations.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

Rallycross places higher demands on shock absorbers than virtually any other motorsport discipline, and the Gravel Rally specification is built around that premise. The inverted monotube construction flips the conventional strut arrangement to position the larger damper body higher in the chassis, lowering unsprung weight and sharpening response on broken surfaces. Long-stroke damper internals and matching long springs are calibrated to handle the extreme G-forces encountered through high-speed directional changes on loose ground – the kind of lateral loading a 993 generates when pitched into a tight hairpin at stage pace. Road surface compatibility covers the primary gravel rally disciplines: sandstone, compacted snow, and silt. All spring rate settings in this kit were finalised through testing with XYZ Racing’s own rally racing teams, meaning the baseline calibration reflects real competitive conditions rather than theoretical targets.

Fitment for the Porsche 993 CARRERA-2 (1993-1998)

This kit is built for the Porsche 993 Carrera-2 (chassis code PO08), covering the full production run from 1993 to 1998. It is specific to the rear-wheel-drive Carrera-2 configuration; Carrera-4 AWD models are not covered by this part number. Confirm your chassis code and model year before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball top mountPillow ballPSolid pillow-ball (spherical bearing) upper — chosen for rigidity and precise camber adjustment, the sharpest steering response of the options.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
