XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S/ GT C 2015-2023

The AMG GT S and GT C run a front-mid engine sat behind the axle line with the gearbox mounted at the rear as a transaxle, so the ME54 chassis carries its weight low but split awkwardly across two ends that both need controlling independently. Add a rear track that’s noticeably wider than the front on the GT C, and body control on anything less than a smooth apron becomes the limiting factor long before the AMG’s V8 does. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover kit is built for that exact problem: broken tarmac, camber changes, potholed B-roads and closed-stage surfaces where a circuit-only damper gives up.

This isn’t a set-up chasing outright lap time on a smooth track. Tarmac Rally settings are tuned for surfaces that throw the car off its intended line – compressions, crests and mid-corner bumps that a standard sports damper either crashes through or floats over. On a car with the AMG GT’s weight distribution, keeping both axles loaded and predictable when the road stops cooperating is the whole point of the spec.

What this coilover does for your 2015-2023 Mercedes Benz AMG GT S/ GT C

Fitted to the GT S or GT C, this kit is built to soak up hard, sudden inputs – a heave over a compression, a jolt from a broken edge – without kicking the body sideways or unsettling the transaxle-mounted rear end. Instead of skating or bottoming out on rough tarmac, the wheel stays in contact with the road and the tyre keeps generating grip through the impact rather than losing it. That matters on the AMG GT specifically because a rear-heavy weight bias makes rear-end stability the thing that goes first when the surface turns nasty; a damper that controls body movement through repeated hits keeps the car pointing where you left it. The net result on a rough section is a car that stays flat and stable through disturbances that would otherwise translate straight into a twitch at the wheel.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally damper is built specifically to deal with uneven, broken road surfaces rather than a prepared circuit. The valving is set up to absorb the impact of a bad edge or a big compression without transmitting that hit straight into the chassis, which is what keeps the tyre loaded and gripping rather than skipping across the surface. Suppressing that shock through the body is the core job of the spec – it’s what stops a hard hit turning into a loss of stability mid-corner, and it’s why the handling stays consistent as the road gets worse rather than better. The damping settings themselves come directly out of XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme, carried across into the road kit rather than derived from circuit testing, which is why the character of this kit reads differently to a track-day coilover from the same range.
