XYZ Racing Pro Rally Coilovers — Mazda 323 (BF) 2WD 1987-1989

The BF-generation 323 is a featherweight front-driver that lives or dies on damper control. Late-eighties Mazda hatchbacks ride on soft, long-travel struts that were tuned for rough secondary roads, and four decades on, most surviving cars are nodding through corners on tired OEM units that were never meant to last this long. The XYZ Racing Pro Rally coilover is the rare modern option built specifically for a chassis this old and this light.

For a 2WD BF 323 being prepared for stage rally, gravel events, or fast back-road use, the Pro Rally spec gives the car a damper that can actually keep the front tyres planted when the surface goes from tarmac to broken asphalt to loose. It replaces the original strut-and-spring assembly with a height-adjustable, damping-adjustable unit designed for repeated unloaded-wheel events.

What this coilover does for your 1987-1989 Mazda 323 (BF) 2WD

The biggest change a BF owner feels is rebound control. Original-spec dampers on these cars have long since lost their ability to resist axle hop on corner exit, and the Pro Rally’s longer-stroke, monotube-style damper restores that authority. Ride height becomes a tuning lever rather than a fixed liability, which matters on a car this small where a 20mm change at the front shifts the weight distribution noticeably. The damping adjustment lets you run the car softer for transit stages and stiffen it up for special-stage pace without swapping parts. On uneven surfaces the front end tracks straight under braking instead of skating sideways, and the rear stops floating between compressions.

About the Pro Rally coilover

The Pro Rally is XYZ Racing’s loose-surface specification, sitting in their range alongside the tarmac-biased Circuit Master and Super Sport units. It is built around a longer working stroke and softer baseline spring rates than the circuit kits, which is the correct approach for a chassis as light as the BF and for surfaces where suspension travel is what keeps the tyre on the ground. Construction is the standard XYZ pattern – threaded body for ride height, an external adjuster for damping, and pillowball or rubber top mounts depending on configuration. Spring rates and valving are matched at the factory to the chassis, so the kit arrives as a complete corner-by-corner solution rather than a generic strut you have to set up from scratch.

Fitment for the Mazda 323 (BF) 2WD (1987-1989)

This kit fits the BF-chassis 323 in front-wheel-drive form only, covering the 1987 to 1989 production run. The 4WD Turbo Familia GT-X uses a different rear arrangement and is not covered by this part number. Confirm chassis code BF on your V5 before ordering.
