XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mazda 323 (BF) 2WD 1987-1989

The BF-generation 323 is a featherweight front-driver with a short wheelbase and a chassis that rewards aggressive trail-braking – which is exactly why it ended up on so many late-1980s rally entry lists. On loose surfaces it pivots willingly, but the stock suspension travel and damping run out of answers the moment the road turns to gravel, ruts, and compressions. This XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built specifically for that environment.

Where a fast-road kit would tie the car down, the Gravel Rally spec keeps the 323 on the ground over broken surfaces and lets the front axle find grip on a slippery stage. It is a working tool for a 1987-1989 BF used in club rallies, historic events, or fast forestry road sections – not a stance kit and not a circuit coilover.

What this coilover does for your 1987-1989 Mazda 323 (BF) 2WD

Spring rates and damping on the Gravel Rally are pitched at long-travel, low-grip surface work, so the BF stops bottoming out on yumps and crests that would unsettle a road-biased setup. The longer effective stroke keeps both tyres loaded through ruts, which is where a 2WD 323 lives or dies on a gravel stage. Adjustable damping lets you read the surface and tune front-end bite for a car that already wants to rotate. Ride height is set from the lower bracket rather than spring perch, so you preserve travel rather than burn it.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is XYZ Racing’s loose-surface spec – a monotube damper with externally adjustable damping and a spring rate scaled for unsealed surfaces rather than tarmac. Construction follows the same hardware family as the rest of the XYZ range: pillowball top mounts where chassis geometry allows, ride-height adjustment via the lower bracket to retain shock stroke, and serviceable internals with revalving and rebuild support through the XYZ network. Pre-load is set independently of ride height, so you can dial spring behaviour without losing droop. It is built to be wound off, taken apart, and run again next weekend.

Fitment for the Mazda 323 (BF) 2WD (1987-1989)

This kit fits the front-wheel-drive BF-chassis Mazda 323 from 1987 to 1989 – the three- and five-door hatch and saloon variants on the 2WD platform, not the four-wheel-drive Familia GT-X / GT-R turbo cars which use different geometry. Check the chassis code stamped on your shell against BF before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
