XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda LEGEND KA7 1991-1995

The KA7 Legend is an unusual rally weapon – a 3.2-litre C32A V6 sitting transverse over the front axle of a 1,500kg executive saloon, then asked to attack sandstone, snow and silt at competition pace. That nose weight, combined with the long-travel demands of a gravel stage, is exactly where a road-derived coilover gives up. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally damper is built for the opposite end of the spectrum: long stroke, long springs, and an inverted tube body engineered to survive G-loads no fast-road kit will ever see.

For a 1991-1995 Honda Legend KA7 running historic gravel or club-level rallycross, this is the suspension that lets the chassis use its weight rather than fight it. The platform’s torsional flex and softer factory bushings mean you need a damper that handles big inputs without spiking through the strut top – which is the entire design brief here.

What this coilover does for your 1991-1995 Honda Legend KA7

On gravel, the KA7’s long wheelbase becomes an asset only if the dampers can keep all four contact patches honest over broken surfaces. The inverted-tube construction puts the larger-diameter section at the top of the strut, where bending loads are highest under hard cornering and landing impacts – reducing shaft flex compared with a conventional twin-tube on rough stages. The long-stroke geometry lets the front end ride out compressions instead of bottoming through the V6’s mass, while extended springs keep the wheel loaded through ruts and crests. You can lean on the front end into a loose-surface turn-in without the rear stepping out unpredictably, and the car settles between gear changes rather than skating across the camber.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Gravel Rally damper specifically for rallycross and gravel stage use, where surface conditions shift between sandstone, snow and silt within a single run. The inverted tube design is the structural answer to those high-amplitude, high-frequency inputs – the upper body carries the side loads, leaving the shaft to handle damping rather than bending. Stroke length and spring length are both extended versus tarmac-spec kit, allowing the damper to absorb genuine gravel-scale chassis vibration and bear the G-forces generated when a heavy saloon changes direction on a loose surface. Every spring rate in the range has been validated by XYZ’s own rally racing teams in competition, not just on a dyno. This is purpose-specific hardware: built for one job, and overbuilt for everything below it.

Fitment for the Honda Legend (1991-1995)

This coilover set is specified for the first-generation KA7 Legend saloon, 1991 through 1995, fitted with the 3.2-litre C32A V6. Confirm chassis code KA7 against your V5 before ordering – earlier KA1/KA3 cars and the later KA8 coupe use different strut geometry.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit
