XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Ford PROBE 1993-1997

The second-generation Ford Probe is a chassis that punches above its weight when the suspension finally gets sorted. That long bonnet, the Mazda KL-ZE V6 sitting transversely over the front axle, and a kerb weight that crept up over the GT’s life all conspire to load the outside front tyre hard mid-corner – and the factory dampers were never built to control it past a few flying laps. Racing Spec is the answer when you’ve outgrown street coilovers and the Probe is heading to the circuit in anger.

This isn’t a fast-road kit asked to moonlight at trackdays. The Racing Spec coilover is built specifically for track race use, with settings developed from direct participation in series including WTCC. For a 1993-1997 Probe being prepared for time-attack, sprint, or championship circuit work, this is the rung above XYZ’s road-biased ranges.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1997 Ford Probe

On a Probe set up for the circuit, the Racing Spec coilover takes ownership of a chassis that historically rolls onto its outside-front shoulder and bleeds front grip on long, loaded corners. The damping is configured for repeated heat cycles and the high-frequency inputs of kerbs and rumble strips, not the bump compliance you’d want on a B-road. Expect a flatter platform under trail-braking, better contact patch consistency through a session, and the ability to actually use the rear of the car instead of fighting understeer from the apex. Spring and damper authority of this order also means you can run more aggressive geometry – more negative camber, stiffer anti-roll – without the chassis going to pieces over surface changes.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec is XYZ Racing’s circuit-only damper, with its valving and spring rates derived from real championship running – WTCC among them – rather than dyno-bench guesswork. The brief is narrow on purpose: track race use, where ride comfort is irrelevant and damper control through prolonged heat is everything. For cars running aggressive build specs – factory-style racing setups or A-class race-car territory – XYZ will build custom shock absorbers to suit. You supply the upgrade list and the circuits you’re running, and the spec is built around your car. For most Probe GT track builds the standard Racing Spec valving is the starting point; the custom route exists when the build genuinely needs it.
