XYZ Racing Super Sport Coilovers — Ford PROBE 1993-1997

The second-generation Ford Probe sits on a Mazda-derived front-drive platform with the KL-DE V6 hanging ahead of the front axle line, and that nose weight is the thing every Probe owner ends up chasing on a B-road. The XYZ Racing Super Sport coilover is built to take that long-nose pendulum feel out of the FO17 chassis without making the car undriveable on the way home.

Fast-road first, weekend track second – that is the brief the Super Sport is engineered around, and it suits the Probe’s character as a GT coupe that owners want to push but still drive to work on Monday.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1997 Ford Probe

The Probe’s factory dampers have a known habit of going soft long before the springs do, which is why most surviving cars feel floaty over crests and roll lazily into the apex. Dropping the Super Sport in tightens the body control immediately – the 36-way damping range gives you room to firm up the front end against that nose-heavy understeer without hammering your spine on patched Tarmac. Ride height adjustment lets you bring the arch gap in line with the wider wheels Probe owners tend to run, and the corner-balance you can extract from independent height adjustment helps the rear actually rotate when you lift. On a damp British back road the gain is in confidence under braking; on a trackday at Cadwell or Donington the gain is in being able to lean on the front tyre without the chassis washing wide.

About the Super Sport coilover

The Super Sport sits in XYZ Racing’s range as the daily-usable damper – the one engineered specifically to eliminate the harshness that cheaper coilovers transmit over poor surfaces. Construction is built around the 36-way damping adjuster, which moves the valving from compliant fast-road through to firm circuit settings on a single knob per corner. Ride height is independently adjustable, so you can set static drop and corner weights without compressing the spring. Vendor literature is direct about the intent: this is a damper for cars that see weekend race use and weekday road use, and the valving has been tuned to handle both rather than forcing a compromise at one end. For a 1990s coupe like the Probe, where original suspension tech is now thirty years old, that breadth of usable adjustment is the real win.

Fitment for the Ford Probe (1993-1997)

This kit is built specifically for the second-generation Ford Probe, chassis code FO17, covering the full 1993 to 1997 production run. Fitment is the GE-platform Probe with the standard strut geometry front and rear – confirm your car against the chassis code before ordering.
