XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Ferrari 488 GTB (without hydraulic lift system) 2016-2026

A 661bhp twin-turbo V8 Ferrari is not the obvious starting point for a gravel build, but the 488 GTB without the factory hydraulic lift system is the chassis that makes it possible. Stripping the nose-lift hardware removes a packaging constraint that fights against long-travel suspension, and that is exactly what gravel work demands. These XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilovers are built around that reality: an inverted-tube damper with long stroke and long springs, sized for a mid-engined supercar that needs to soak up impacts most 488s will never see.

The 488’s mid-engined weight bias and short wheelbase make it twitchy on loose surfaces – the rear end loads quickly, then unloads just as fast over crests. A gravel-specification damper has to manage that transfer without packing down. This is the kit for an owner taking an FE03-1 488 onto stages, hillclimbs on unsealed sections, or private gravel testing.

What this coilover does for your 2016-2026 Ferrari 488 GTB (without Hydraulic Lift System)

Long-stroke damping is the first thing you notice on broken surfaces. The 488’s relatively stiff factory tune is tuned for tarmac contact patch; on gravel it skips and the rear steps. The Gravel Rally damper absorbs the initial hit and lets the wheel follow the surface rather than pattering across it, which keeps the tyre loaded and the rear axle predictable through compressions. The inverted-tube design puts the larger working diameter at the strut body, increasing resistance to lateral bending under hard side-loads – useful when the front axle is being asked to bite into loose sandstone or silt at speed. Long springs paired with that stroke mean the chassis can take a sustained battering without bottoming, and the spring rates are set from data the XYZ rally programme has gathered on actual stages rather than guessed at a desk.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

Of all the disciplines XYZ build for, gravel rally is the most punishing on a damper – surface changes from sandstone to snow to silt within a single stage, sustained high-speed bouncing, and the G-forces of cornering on a loose top layer. The Gravel Rally coilover is built specifically to that brief. The inverted-tube construction was developed to handle those varied surface conditions; the larger upper body resists side-load, the longer internal stroke deals with the vertical violence. Spring rates are not generic catalogue numbers – every setting is tested by the XYZ Racing rally team in competition, which is the only way to learn what actually works when a car is landing off a crest at full throttle. This is the platform XYZ builds when the requirement is to absorb chassis vibration aggressively, attack high-speed bouncy roads, and bear extreme cornering G-force on a surface that punishes any of those failings.

Fitment for the Ferrari 488 GTB (Years 2016-2026)

This kit is specific to the FE03-1 488 GTB built without the factory hydraulic lift system – the lift hardware shares space the long-stroke gravel damper needs. The fitment covers the 2016 through 2026 production span. Confirm your car’s VIN does not list the front-axle lift option before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
