XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Ferrari 488 GTB (without hydraulic lift system) 2016-2026

The 488 GTB is a mid-engined twin-turbo V8 built around chassis that already lives close to the limit on a smooth circuit – asking it to deal with the patched, crowned, kerb-clipped surface of a closed tarmac stage is a different conversation entirely. This XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover set for the FE03-1 488 GTB (specifically the non-lift variant, which lets the damper sit lower in the strut tower) is built around that conversation.

It is a stage-spec damper, not a circuit damper detuned for the road. The valving prioritises keeping a 1,475kg mid-engined Ferrari composed when the surface stops being flat – protecting the contact patch through compressions, kerbs and crested corners where a track-biased setup would skip and unload.

What this coilover does for your 2016-2026 Ferrari 488 GTB

On a stage surface, the 488’s twin-turbo torque only works if the rear tyre stays loaded. The Tarmac Rally damping is tuned to absorb sharp inputs – expansion joints, broken edges, the second-apex hop most circuit surfaces never throw at you – without the body settling into the kind of oscillation that pulls the rear axle light. You get traction where a stiffer track coilover would skate.

The handling gain is felt most over compressions and through high-speed direction changes, where the 488’s weight bias wants to push the nose. With the impact loads being soaked rather than transmitted, the front axle stays planted, the steering stays accurate, and the car holds its line instead of drifting wide on bumpy corner exits. Daily driveability survives too – this is a damper that copes with imperfect surfaces, which is exactly what British B-roads are.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is XYZ Racing’s specialist sealed-stage damper, valved from settings developed during the company’s own tarmac rally programme. The brief is impact absorption: soak the jolt from large surface intrusions, suppress the secondary body shock, and keep the tyre pressed into the road for as long as possible during the recovery stroke. That is what increases traction on broken surfaces, and it is what the standard 488 dampers – tuned for a flat track surface and a comfortable showroom ride – simply are not asked to do.

Construction and adjustment follow the XYZ Racing platform, with the spring and damping curves selected for the chassis weight and drivetrain layout of the Ferrari it is built for. Settings carry across from XYZ Racing’s stage testing rather than being scaled down from a circuit kit, which is the meaningful difference between a true rally damper and a track coilover with softer springs fitted.

Fitment for the Ferrari 488 GTB (2016-2026)

This kit is specific to chassis code FE03-1, the 488 GTB without the front-axle hydraulic lift system. If your car has the factory nose-lift fitted, you need the lift-compatible variant – the strut top geometry is different. Year coverage is 2016 through to 2026, covering the full GTB production run and continued service support.
