XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — BMW X5 E70 4WD (NON AIR STRUT) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2007-2013

The E70 X5 is a 2,200kg SUV with a body that wants to roll, a quattro-style xDrive split that loads the outside front hard, and – on cars that originally ran the optional EDC air struts – a factory damping system that fights anything coil-based you bolt to it. The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover for the non-air-strut E70 X5 4WD is the sealed-stage answer to that, with a built-in cancellation harness for the electronic damping module so the dash stays quiet and the system stops looking for struts that aren’t there.

Tarmac rally is the brief here, not show-car stance. That means damping calibrated to soak up mid-corner kerbs, broken asphalt and crested apexes at speed without unloading the inside rear or pitching the nose into understeer – the exact failure modes a tall, heavy E70 punishes you for on a stage.

What this coilover does for your 2007-2013 Bmw X5 E70 4WD (NON AIR STRUT) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping)

Drop the E70 onto these and the first thing that changes is the front-end honesty under trail-braking. The factory dampers run out of body control long before the tyres do; the Tarmac Rally valving holds the nose flat enough that you can feel the front axle bite instead of guessing. Across broken tarmac the chassis stops floating between hits and settles between them, which is what gives the front Michelins or Pilot Sports the contact patch they need to actually steer the car. Lift-off into a fast right no longer triggers the lazy weight transfer the standard X5 is known for. And the supplied EDC cancellation kit means no fault codes, no limp-home damping map, no warning lamp staring back at you on the M2 home.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

This is XYZ’s purpose-tuned sealed-surface rally damper, valved from the settings the brand’s own tarmac rally programme has run on competition cars. Construction is built around shock-body rigidity and high-flow piston work so the damper can absorb a sharp single hit – a compression strip, a raised drain cover, a kerb apex – without packing down on the rebound stroke. The result is a coilover that controls big inputs without losing the small ones: tyre traction stays on the road surface rather than skipping above it. Spring and damping rates come pre-set from XYZ’s tarmac rally experience rather than borrowed from a circuit map, which matters on a heavy SUV where the wrong rebound curve will tramline the car across cambers. On the E70 specifically, the kit ships with the electronic damping cancellation harness so the original EDC control module is satisfied and the chassis no longer expects to talk to air struts.

Fitment for the Bmw X5 E70 (2007-2013)

Confirmed for the E70 X5 4WD chassis built between 2007 and 2013, chassis code BM69-1-1-C, specifically the non-air-strut variant. The supplied cancellation kit addresses cars originally fitted with the optional electronic damping control, so the conversion to passive coilovers does not throw a fault. Air-suspension cars are a different part number – check yours before ordering.
