XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — BMW X1 F48 2016-2022

The F48 X1 was never designed with sealed-stage rally pace in mind – it is a tall, transverse-engined crossover with a high centre of gravity and a chassis tuned for school-run compliance. The Tarmac Rally coilover from XYZ Racing is what you fit when you have decided to fundamentally rethink that platform: lower the ride height, control the body movement, and turn an F48 X1 into something that can be hustled hard over broken tarmac without unloading a wheel mid-corner.

This is a specialist setup, and it should be read that way. It is not a fast-road kit with a rally badge – it is the same damping philosophy XYZ Racing applies to its sealed-stage rally programmes, scaled to fit the F48 platform with its mix of front-wheel-drive sDrive and xDrive AWD variants from 2016 through 2022.

What this coilover does for your 2016-2022 Bmw X1 F48

The first thing you will notice on an F48 fitted with the Tarmac Rally setup is composure over surface changes – the kind of mid-corner ridges and patched repairs that send a stock X1 skating sideways on its tall sidewalls. The damping is calibrated to absorb a hit and reset before the next one arrives, which is the entire point of a tarmac-rally tune: traction held through the jolt, not lost over it. The body sits flatter under load, the front axle bites earlier on turn-in, and the rear stops floating over compressions on fast B-road sections. For an xDrive F48 in particular, that translates into a noticeably more decisive front end – the four-wheel-drive system has something to push against instead of fighting an unsettled chassis. Spring and damper rates are matched to the F48’s weight distribution, so the high-set body is brought down without the kit running out of stroke on the first big compression.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is engineered around one job: keeping a tyre planted on broken pavement at competitive speed. The damper is built to absorb the impact of uneven surfaces and suppress secondary body movement after a big bump, so the chassis recovers its line rather than skipping wide. XYZ Racing develops these settings out of its own tarmac rally racing experience, which means the baseline valving has been validated against the kind of repeated, high-energy compression cycles that destroy lesser dampers within a single stage. Compared to a circuit-focused setup, the Tarmac Rally runs a damping curve that prioritises surface compliance and tyre traction over the last fraction of platform stiffness – because on a stage road, the fastest car is the one whose tyres are still on the ground. Construction is to XYZ Racing’s standard rally specification, with adjustment range to let you tune the kit to surface and pace.

Fitment for the Bmw X1 F48 (2016-2022)

This kit is built specifically for the F48-generation X1, covering 2016 through 2022 model years across both sDrive front-wheel-drive and xDrive all-wheel-drive variants. The F48 sits on BMW’s UKL2 transverse-engine platform, so spring perch geometry, strut top mounts, and rear damper architecture are all matched to that chassis – this is not an adapted 3 Series kit.
