The Golf R Mk7’s Haldex-controlled 4WD system sends torque rearward under load, and that’s the axis a drift setup has to work with rather than against. Stock DCC adaptive damping is tuned for grip, not for holding an angle once the rear steps out, and it can’t be retro-tuned for drift work without conflicting with the car’s own electronics.
That’s what this XYZ Racing Pro Racing Drift Spec kit is for. It replaces the factory electronically-controlled struts with a Φ55 mechanical coilover and a cancellation harness that removes the DCC conflict, so the Haldex system keeps doing its job while the suspension is set up for controlled slip angle instead of outright grip.
What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Volkswagen GOLF R
Drop the ride height correctly and the body control changes noticeably through weight transfer – the Golf R settles into a rotation rather than pitching and wallowing as the Haldex system hands torque to the rear axle. The 3-way adjustment knobs let you separate the front and rear damping character, so you can soften initial turn-in bite while keeping the rear firm enough to hold an angle once you’re sideways. Lowering the car within the kit’s bump stroke tightens the roll centre and keeps the chassis flatter mid-slide, which matters on a car this heavy through the nose. For an MK7 Golf R specifically, that translates into more predictable transitions when the Haldex unit shifts drive rearward – the kind of consistency a drift car needs lap after run, without the front axle fighting the rear for control.
About the Pro Racing Drift Spec coilover
This coilover is built specifically around drift use rather than adapted from a track-day spec. The valving and spring combination are set up to stabilise the body through high-speed rotation so the car holds a clean angle instead of snapping or washing out mid-corner. Once the ride height is dropped within the correct bump stroke, the damping response is tuned to keep that angle controllable rather than twitchy. Each strut uses a 3-knob adjustment layout with a small-orifice oil passage design; on rough circuit surfaces this can produce a faint noise as oil moves through the smaller passage under compression, which is a normal characteristic of this valving rather than a fault. The kit is built for circuit and drift-track surfaces, where bump absorption at speed matters more than outright ride comfort.
Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF R (2012-2020)
This kit is built for the Mk7 Golf R, chassis code VO20-11-C, covering the 2012-2020 4WD model with Φ55-diameter struts. It includes the cancellation kit required to bypass the factory electronic damping control on cars fitted with DCC from new, allowing the mechanical coilover to run without triggering the stock adaptive suspension system.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Front
Pillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
Hardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
Rear
OE (factory) mountOERetains the OEM (factory) upper mount — preserves the original ride comfort, noise and vibration behaviour for a stock-like feel.
