XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK7 φ50 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated 2012-2020

Rally and rallycross demand something road coilovers don’t give you: travel. On loose surfaces the MK7 Golf’s MQB-platform, multi-link rear axle needs more stroke than a circuit setup allows before the wheel runs out of suspension and the chassis starts pounding through the bump stops. XYZ Racing’s Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 (2012-2020) is built around that problem: longer travel front and rear, so the car can absorb a rutted stage or a snow-packed junction without the axle bottoming out mid-corner.

This is the gravel and snow-spec end of the Pro Racing range, distinct from the tarmac-biased kits in the same family. Where a circuit coilover chases minimum ride height and maximum lateral grip, this one is set up to keep the Golf composed when the surface underneath it is unpredictable – ice, gravel, standing water on a British B-road in January.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Volkswagen GOLF MK7

Extended suspension oil and nitrogen gas capacity is the headline spec here: the reservoir carries more fluid than a standard road coilover, which keeps oil temperature down when the damper is working constantly over rough terrain rather than the occasional track kerb. On a Golf running snow tyres or gravel-spec rubber, that matters – sustained washboard surfaces and rutted lanes load a damper in a way smooth tarmac never does, and a shock that overheats loses damping control exactly when you need it most. The longer front and rear travel gives the multi-link rear axle more room to work before it tops or bottoms out, which on loose surfaces translates into a wheel that stays in contact with the ground rather than skipping across it. Three separate adjustment knobs let you set the front and rear independently as conditions change, from packed snow to loose gravel.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

XYZ Racing built the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover specifically for rally and rallycross use rather than adapting a circuit damper for loose surfaces. The extra front and rear travel creates a bigger buffer zone before the suspension runs out of stroke, which is what keeps the car stable when a stage throws a compression or a crest at speed. Inside, the damper carries a larger volume of suspension oil and nitrogen gas than XYZ’s tarmac-focused kits, and that’s the mechanism behind the extended thermal stability – more fluid means more heat capacity before the oil degrades and damping falls off during a long stage or a full day on snow. The trade-off of routing oil through the small passages that feed the three adjustment knobs is a faint noise over big compressions; that’s the damper doing its job, not a fault, and XYZ Racing notes it as expected behaviour on rough surfaces rather than smooth circuit tarmac.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 (2012-2020)

This kit is specced for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 with φ50 front strut fitment and the multi-link rear suspension layout, modified for integrated rear mounting, covering the 2012 to 2020 model years. Confirm your Golf uses the multi-link rear axle before ordering, as MK7 trims split between multi-link and torsion-beam rear ends.

What buyers also search for

  • Volkswagen Golf MK7 coilover set up for gravel, snow and rallycross conditions rather than tarmac circuits.
  • Golf MK7 suspension travel increased front and rear to handle rutted stages and packed snow without bottoming out.
  • Volkswagen Golf MK7 damper with extended oil and nitrogen gas capacity for sustained rough-surface use.
  • Golf MK7 multi-link rear coilover kit with independent front and rear adjustment as conditions change.

Spec is set by your exact Golf MK7 build and the surfaces you’re driving on, front and rear damping included – configure yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Iron top mountIronIRONIron upper mount — a heavy-duty housing built to take sustained load where a stronger top mount is required.
