XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK7 φ50 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated 2012-2020

Gravel throws a different problem at a Mk7 Golf than tarmac ever does. On loose surfaces the multi-link rear axle needs travel and control it never gets asked for on the road, and a fast-road or track coilover with short stroke will pack down and skip over compressions instead of following them. The Gravel Rally kit is built around long stroke and long springs specifically to give this chassis somewhere to put that travel.

For stage work or rallycross in a Mk7, that matters more than outright stiffness. The car needs to absorb repeated high-speed hits without the damper running out of shaft or the chassis losing contact with the ground through a rutted compression.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Volkswagen GOLF MK7

An inverted-tube damper design keeps the working rod protected from the debris a gravel stage throws at it – sandstone, silt, standing water, whatever the surface is doing that day. Combined with the long-stroke build, the rear multi-link axle on this Mk7 gets the vertical movement it needs to keep the tyre loaded through compressions rather than skipping across them. The longer spring works with that stroke to soak up chassis vibration from rough, aggressive road surfaces without transmitting every hit straight into the body. Under hard cornering and high G-load, the setup is built to hold its line rather than deflect, which is the difference between a Golf that tracks straight out of a rutted corner and one that gets thrown wide by the first bump it meets.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This damper was developed specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road surface changes constantly and unpredictably – sandstone one section, snow or silt the next. The inverted-tube construction is a direct response to that: it protects the shock internals from the environment while keeping the damper working through the full range of surfaces a stage can present. Long stroke and long spring are paired deliberately so the chassis can absorb vibration from aggressive, broken roads and still bear the extreme G-forces generated when turning at speed on loose surfaces. Every spring rate offered in this range has been tested and set by an active rally racing team, not derived from road-car settings scaled down – the damping and spring combination reflects what has actually worked under stage conditions rather than a theoretical target.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 (2012-2020)

Built for the Golf Mk7 with the φ50 rear multi-link suspension arrangement, chassis code VO20-3, covering the 2012 to 2020 production run. This is the modified-rear-integrated configuration for this axle type – confirm your Mk7’s rear suspension matches this multi-link layout before ordering, as Volkswagen ran different rear axle designs across trims and years within the Mk7 generation.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
