XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD φ50 (Modified Rear Integrated) 2008-2012

Four-wheel-drive Golf MK6s built for gravel-stage work carry weight nobody accounts for on a road car: the transfer case, the extra driveshaft hardware, the reinforced subframe mounts. All of it has to move through a rear end that’s already been reworked with an integrated shock mount. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built specifically around that modified Rr Integrated rear geometry, not adapted from a road-spec kit.

This is a stage-rally damper, not a fast-road coilover with a rally sticker on it. It’s built to take the Golf off tarmac entirely – into ruts, washboard, and compression events that would destroy a standard monotube in a single stage.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2012 Volkswagen GOLF MK6

Gravel stages load a suspension completely differently to a circuit. Compressions arrive without warning, the surface changes metre to metre, and the shock has to absorb repeated hard hits without losing damping consistency. The inverted-tube design on this kit puts the working parts where they’re least exposed to flying stones and silt ingress, which matters on a car running full-time 4WD through the same rough terrain the transfer case was built for. Long-stroke travel and a correspondingly long spring soak up chassis vibration before it reaches the body shell, and give the rear axle – already carrying the extra unsprung mass of 4WD hardware – somewhere to go when a compression event hits at speed. Spring rates are set to bear extreme cornering G-force without the Golf’s nose diving or the tail stepping out unpredictably on loose surfaces. For a MK6 built to run rally stages rather than track days, that’s the difference between a car that survives a stage and one that gets faster on it.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road surfaces range from sandstone to snow to loose silt within a single event – the most punishing conditions any of their coilover ranges are asked to handle. The inverted-tube shock body is arranged to cope with that surface variation without the damper losing its composure between one compression and the next. Stroke length and spring length are both extended well past road-going norms, giving the damper the travel to absorb chassis vibration and to shrug off aggressive hits from high-speed, broken ground rather than topping or bottoming out. Every spring rate offered in this range has been set and proven by an active rally racing team, not calculated on a bench, so the rates reflect what actually holds up when a car is thrown into a stage at pace. It’s a damper built for one job: keeping a 4WD chassis composed when the road disappears.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK6 (2008-2012)

This kit is built for the Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD Φ50 (Modified Rr Integrated), chassis code VO18-A, covering the 2008 to 2012 model years. The rear geometry is specific to the modified, integrated Rr shock mount fitment – confirm your car matches this rear-end configuration, as it differs from the standard MK6 rear mounting.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
