XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Toyota CELICA ST185 4WD TURBO (Mcpherson Type) 1989-1993

The ST185 Celica GT-Four was the machine that handed Carlos Sainz his 1992 WRC Drivers’ Championship – a 3S-GTE-powered, all-wheel-drive homologation special that built its reputation on gravel stages and snow roads across Europe. Those same conditions are precisely what the XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is built around.

This is not a fast-road coilover with rally branding. Extended front and rear suspension travel distinguishes the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow from tarmac competition units, providing the clearance to absorb large-amplitude inputs – crests, ruts, rock strikes – without the damper topping out at a critical moment and unsettling the ST185’s four-wheel-drive balance.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1993 Toyota CELICA ST185 4WD TURBO (Mcpherson Type)

The ST185’s McPherson-type front suspension works hard on rough surfaces. Under sustained gravel-stage conditions, conventional dampers accumulate heat and lose consistency; the enlarged oil and nitrogen gas reservoir in the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow unit directly addresses this by sustaining stable damping force across the extended high-frequency inputs of a loose-surface competitive event. Greater travel at both axles keeps the 4WD drivetrain in contact with the ground and feeding traction to all corners – the configuration this chassis was designed to exploit. Three separate adjustment knobs allow independent tuning of the damping characteristics, giving a setup that can be refined between stages when conditions shift from dry gravel to damp clay or snow-covered roads.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow series is developed primarily for Rally Racing and Rallycross competition, with increased suspension travel front and rear over tarmac-spec units – the additional buffer distance being the central advantage for cars operating on loose or uneven surfaces. The enlarged oil and nitrogen gas volume extends the damper’s thermal headroom, preventing shock oil temperature from climbing to the point of fade under prolonged competitive use. Three adjustment knobs operate through a small-orifice oil passage design that delivers precise control across the travel range. At the outer limits of suspension travel over substantial bumps, the oil routing through these smaller passages can produce an audible sound – this is a known and normal characteristic of the unit under extreme inputs, not a mechanical defect. The series also suits circuit tracks where surface variation is a factor.

Fitment for the Toyota CELICA ST185 4WD TURBO (Mcpherson Type) (1989-1993)

This kit is developed for the ST185 chassis (chassis code TO18) in the 4WD Turbo body, specifically the McPherson-type front suspension configuration, across the 1989-1993 production span. Coverage includes the GT-Four and equivalent All-Trac Turbo variants that shared the same platform and suspension architecture. The naturally aspirated ST182 and ST183 use different suspension geometry and are not covered by this fitment.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
