XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Toyota CELICA ST185 4WD TURBO (Mcpherson Type) 1989-1993

The ST185-generation Celica existed to put Toyota on top of the world rally stage, and its McPherson-strut front end was always meant to take punishment on loose surfaces rather than billiard-smooth tarmac. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Toyota Celica ST185 4WD Turbo picks up exactly where that brief left off: a long-travel, long-spring damper built around sandstone, snow and silt instead of a circuit kerb.

This is not a fast-road setup pressed into stage duty. The Gravel Rally type is built for gravel-stage rally and rallycross, where the road surface is the most aggressive thing the car ever meets. Its job is to keep the full-time 4WD system fed with grip over broken ground and absorb the loads a turbocharged Celica throws at the chassis when it changes direction at speed.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1993 Toyota Celica ST185 4WD Turbo

On a loose surface the ST185 lives or dies by how well each wheel tracks the ground, and the long stroke here is the whole point: it lets the suspension extend into ruts and compress over crests without running out of travel, so the 4WD system always has a contact patch to work with. The long spring soaks up the constant chassis vibration of a corrugated stage rather than transmitting it into the shell. The inverted tube layout adds the bending stiffness and durability you need when a high-speed bump arrives mid-corner under full boost. The net effect on your ST185 is composure on surfaces that would unsettle a road-biased damper, and the ability to keep attacking instead of backing off.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This damper was developed specifically for rally and rallycross competition, where surface conditions are far harsher than anything a sealed circuit presents. XYZ Racing built it around an inverted tube design so it can cope with the full spread of stage surfaces – sandstone, snow and silt – each of which loads the shock differently. The combination of long stroke and long spring is deliberate: it allows the suspension to absorb chassis vibration, attack high-speed bouncy roads without skipping, and carry the extreme cornering G-forces a 4WD turbo car generates when it turns in. Because the shock absorber is effectively the most important component in gravel competition, the spring rates are not guesswork – every rate is set and validated by a rally racing team. The result is a coilover engineered to take repeated abuse and keep working.

Fitment for the Toyota CELICA ST185 4WD TURBO (Mcpherson Type) (1989-1993)

This kit is matched to the ST185 4WD Turbo (chassis code TO18, McPherson strut type) across the 1989-1993 build span. It suits the full-time four-wheel-drive turbo Celica specifically, so confirm your car is the McPherson-strut ST185 variant before configuring.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
