XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Subaru IMPREZA WRX/ WRX STI AWD 4WD 2015-2021

Loose surface changes everything about how a WRX STI moves. The AWD system that keeps a road car planted turns into a weapon on gravel, but only if the dampers can control a wheel that’s airborne one moment and slamming into a rut the next. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built around that reality rather than around a track apex.

For the SU12-generation Impreza WRX and WRX STI, that means a damper that survives sustained high-frequency hits without fading, and a spring that lets the suspension breathe instead of skating across the surface. This is the setup for stage work and rally cross, not a road-legal comfort compromise.

What this coilover does for your 2015-2021 Subaru IMPREZA WRX/ WRX STI AWD 4WD

Long-stroke travel gives the WRX/STI’s suspension room to work when a wheel drops into a compression at speed, instead of topping or bottoming out and unsettling the chassis mid-stage. The long spring rate pairing keeps tyre contact on broken surfaces where a shorter, stiffer road-biased spring would skip and lose traction. Inverted tube construction protects the damper internals from the sandstone, snow and silt that gravel stages throw at a car, so damping force stays consistent from the first corner to the last. On the AWD Impreza specifically, that consistency matters more than on a two-wheel-drive car – with four contact patches trying to put power down, any one corner losing control undermines the whole system’s ability to drive out of a bend. Chassis vibration absorption also keeps the STI’s drivetrain and subframe mounts from taking the battering that a stiffer, circuit-oriented coilover would transmit straight into the car.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Gravel Rally coilover specifically for rally and rally cross use, where road surface conditions are more aggressive than anything a circuit throws up. The shock absorber becomes the single most stressed component in that environment, so the design starts from an inverted tube layout that can be tuned across sandstone, snow and silt without changing character. Long stroke and long spring combine to soak up chassis vibration and absorb the aggressive hits that come from bouncing over broken, high-speed gravel roads, while still managing the extreme G-force loading generated through fast direction changes. Spring rate settings weren’t picked off a chart – they were tested by a rally racing team, which is the difference between a coilover that copes with gravel and one that’s designed around it. On a car as power- and grip-heavy as the WRX STI, that gravel-specific tuning is what lets the AWD system actually do its job at speed.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
