XYZ Racing Circuit Master Coilovers — Porsche 996 CARRERA-2 1998-2001

Few cars reward careful suspension setup as visibly as the 996 Carrera-2. The rear-engine weight bias – approximately 62 per cent over the rear axle – means damper tuning has disproportionate influence on balance: a modest change in rear rebound can transform the car from neutral and fast-rotating to something that asks serious questions at the limit. The Circuit Master is designed for exactly this kind of deliberate, lap-time-focused development.

From the 1998 introduction of the 996.1 through to the 2001 model year, the Carrera-2’s MacPherson-front, multi-link-rear architecture was competent from the factory. What it was not designed to handle is the sustained thermal and mechanical load of repeated circuit sessions. The XYZ Racing Circuit Master coilover is a competition-developed kit with the adjustment depth to support a genuine setup programme – not simply a stiffer version of a road spring.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2001 Porsche 996 Carrera-2

Lowering the 996’s centre of gravity systematically reduces the pendulum effect that gives rear-engined 911s their on-the-limit character – the one that punishes a driver who trails the brakes too deep into a tight hairpin with the rear already loaded. Ride-height adjustment in the Circuit Master lets you work on that geometry track by track. Three independent adjustment knobs control separate damper parameters without coupling one change to another, and with 9,720 distinct adjustment combinations available, there is genuine scope to find a different base setting for a fast, flowing circuit and a tighter technical layout – and to return to either with precision.

About the Circuit Master

XYZ Racing’s Circuit Master is the firm’s top-level damper line, validated through XYZ’s own racing teams across international circuit venues. The defining specification is 9,720 adjustment combinations, accessed through three physical control knobs – each governing a distinct aspect of damper behaviour – rather than a single dial that trades one characteristic off against another. The construction uses a small-bore oil passage, which is what enables the fine-grain sensitivity at each adjustment position. One consequence of that design is a faint noise the dampers can produce when oil forces through the restricted passage over sharp-edged road bumps; this is an inherent characteristic of the construction method and has no relevance on the smooth surfaces of a circuit, where the kit is intended to operate. The Circuit Master range covers disciplines including circuit racing, tarmac rally, and drift, with each fitment’s calibration reflecting its intended application.

Fitment for the Porsche 996 Carrera-2 (1998-2001)

This kit is listed to chassis code PO01 and covers the rear-wheel-drive 996 Carrera-2 from model year 1998 through to 2001 – the 996.1 generation produced before the 2002 facelift. The fitment is specific to the Carrera-2 variant; other 996 derivatives use different chassis geometry and are listed as separate applications with their own part numbers.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
