XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Nissan 350 Z Z33 (Modified Rear Integrated) 2002-2008

Rally-prepping a 350 Z isn’t a mainstream build, and that’s exactly why the standard road or track dampers on this chassis fall apart the first time a Z33 leaves tarmac. The VQ35DE’s weight sits low and slightly aft of the front axle, so under compression on a rutted stage the rear end loads unevenly and the factory shock travel runs out fast. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built around that specific failure point rather than around lap times.

This is a purpose-built stage damper, not a repurposed circuit unit with softer springs. For a Z33 running the modified rear-integrated mount, it’s specced for sustained abuse over broken, unpredictable surfaces – sand, silt, washboard gravel, standing water – where the shock is doing more structural work than the chassis itself.

What this coilover does for your 2002-2008 Nissan 350 Z Z33

Fitted to the 2002-2008 350 Z Z33, the inverted-tube design keeps the shaft protected from the grit and stone impact a gravel stage throws up, which matters on a car never designed with rally ground clearance in mind. The long stroke and long free-length spring give the rear end somewhere to go when the Z33’s tail steps out over a crest or lands hard off a compression – instead of the shock topping or bottoming and handing you a snap oversteer moment on loose surface. That extended travel also means the chassis can absorb repeated high-G direction changes through gravel corners without transmitting every hit straight into the rear subframe. On a platform that already has a reputation for going light at the rear under load, this is the difference between a controllable slide and one that isn’t.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is engineered specifically around rally and rallycross conditions, which XYZ Racing treats as the most demanding of its damper ranges – the shock absorber effectively becomes the single most stressed component on the car during a gravel event. The inverted-tube layout is there to cope with the full spread of surfaces a stage throws at it: sand, snow, and silt all load a damper differently, and the construction is built to keep working across all three rather than being tuned for one. Long stroke travel paired with a long spring lets the unit soak up chassis vibration and absorb hard hits from high-speed, bouncy terrain, while still holding the car together under the extreme cornering G-force that comes with gravel driving. Every spring rate offered in this range has been set and validated by an active rally racing team, not derived from road-car data – so the rates reflect what actually holds up over a stage rather than a showroom estimate.

Fitment for the Nissan 350 Z Z33 (2002-2008)

This kit is specified for the Nissan 350 Z, chassis code NI03, covering the 2002 to 2008 model years with the modified rear-integrated configuration. Confirm your Z33 matches this rear-mount specification before ordering, as it’s distinct from the standard rear setup on this chassis.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
