XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Mitsubishi LANCER (VIRAGE) 1988-1992

Loose-surface rallying asks for travel, not stiffness, and the XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover for the Mitsubishi Lancer (Virage) is built around that demand. This is a long-travel damper for the 1988-1992 Lancer, set up for gravel and snow stages where the wheels need room to follow a broken, rutted surface rather than skip across it.

The Lancer nameplate earned its loose-surface reputation on safari and forest stages long before the Evolution arrived, and this compact late-80s saloon sits in that lineage. Where a tarmac coilover would top out and pitch the car off line over a crest, the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow keeps the contact patch loaded through the rough.

What this coilover does for your 1988-1992 Mitsubishi LANCER (VIRAGE)

On the car, the first thing you feel is composure over bad ground. The extended front and rear travel gives the Lancer a bigger buffer before the suspension runs out of stroke, so big compressions and landings settle the chassis instead of unloading it. The larger oil and nitrogen volume inside each damper resists heat build-up, which matters on a long gravel stage where a smaller shock would fade and go vague as the oil cooks. Three-way adjustment lets you separate spring and damping behaviour for ruts, jumps and surface changes, so you can soften for deep gravel or firm up for hard-packed snow without swapping parts. The result is a Virage that stays predictable when the surface is anything but.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is engineered first and foremost for rally and rallycross, where the priorities are travel, stability and heat management rather than outright stiffness. Both front and rear units run longer travel than a circuit damper, opening up a bigger buffer distance that keeps the car settled when the surface drops away or kicks back. Inside, XYZ Racing increases the volume of both suspension oil and nitrogen gas; the extra fluid and gas hold damper behaviour steady and stop the oil temperature climbing to the point where performance falls off after sustained hard running. Adjustment is handled by three knobs, each working through a small oil passage. One consequence of that small-passage design is a faint noise when the coilover is driven hard over large bumps, as the oil is forced through the restricted port. This is normal and not a fault. It is a damper specified for stage and circuit use, where surface imperfections are expected rather than avoided.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi LANCER (VIRAGE) (1988-1992)

This kit is matched to the Mitsubishi Lancer (Virage) built between 1988 and 1992, identified here by the Virage chassis designation. Confirm your car falls inside that year span before ordering; fitment is specific to this generation of Lancer and the spec is set for it.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
