XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi 3000 GT / GTO 4WD 1992-1996

The MT03-chassis 3000GT/GTO carries a viscous-coupled 4WD system and a twin-turbo V6 well forward of the front axle, so on loose surfaces the car pitches and dives harder than its road manners suggest. Standard dampers were tuned for tarmac compliance, not for a rutted forestry stage where the front end needs to stay planted through repeated compression cycles.

XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built specifically for that brief. It replaces the factory units with a long-stroke, long-spring design intended to keep the 3000GT / GTO’s considerable AWD hardware under control when the road surface stops behaving like a road.

What this coilover does for your 1992-1996 Mitsubishi 3000 GT / GTO 4WD

The inverted-tube damper body increases the working stroke available at each corner, which matters on a heavy 4WD coupe where suspension travel gets used up fast over compressions and crests. Longer springs paired with that extended stroke let the chassis absorb repeated impacts from ruts and washboard without the suspension topping or bottoming out mid-corner. Because the viscous centre diff is constantly shuffling torque between axles, keeping consistent wheel contact at all four corners through a rough stage matters more here than on a 2WD car – this setup is built to hold that contact patch under load, through turn-in and under hard cornering G, rather than letting the chassis skip across the surface. The result is a 3000GT / GTO that settles faster after a compression and holds its line into the next bend instead of arriving unsettled.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper line for rally and rallycross use, where road surface is about as hostile as motorsport gets – sandstone, snow, silt and everything between can turn up on the same stage. The inverted-tube layout is chosen specifically to cope with that surface variability rather than one fixed condition. Stroke length and spring length are both extended over a standard road coilover, giving the damper more room to work as the chassis absorbs vibration and copes with high-speed bouncing over broken ground, and to bear the extreme cornering loads that a rally car generates turn after turn. Spring rate settings for the range weren’t picked on a spreadsheet – they were run and adjusted by a rally racing team, so the base rates supplied here reflect what actually held up on a stage rather than a theoretical calculation.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi 3000 GT / GTO 4WD (1992-1996)

This kit is built for the MT03-chassis Mitsubishi 3000GT / GTO 4WD, covering the full 1992 to 1996 production run. Confirm your car is the 4WD variant before ordering, as the viscous coupling and rear differential mounting points differ from the front-drive version.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
