XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz S CLASS W222 4WD (NON MBC hydraulic) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2014-2020

The W222 S Class is a two-tonne luxury saloon engineered around air springs and electronically controlled damping, which is exactly why retrofitting a competition coilover into one is not a job for a generic kit. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the 4WD W222 ships with the electronic damping cancellation hardware needed to take the factory adaptive system out of the loop cleanly, without throwing a permanent dash error or leaving the car limping on a default map.

Gravel Rally spec is the loose-surface, high-travel end of the XYZ range. On a chassis as heavy and as long-wheelbase as the W222, that translates to a setup that can soak up broken tarmac, unsealed access roads, and the kind of surface compromise UK B-roads serve up in winter, without the floaty secondary ride the OE air system develops as it ages.

What this coilover does for your 2014-2020 Mercedes Benz S Class W222 4WD (NON MBC hydraulic) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping)

The first thing you feel after fitment is body control returning to a car whose air struts have almost certainly started to soften, sag, or leak by the time it reaches the second owner. Spring rates and damping are matched to the W222’s mass and 4MATIC weight distribution, so the nose stops diving on heavy braking and the rear stops squatting under the twin-turbo V8’s torque load. Ride height is adjustable independently of damping, so you can drop the visual gap over the wheel without losing the suspension travel the gravel-spec valving needs to work. Damping adjustment lets you firm the car up for a dry surface and back it off when the road turns greasy. And critically, the supplied cancellation kit means the dash stays clean – no permanent ADS warning, no fault codes propagating to other modules.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally series is built for loose-surface work where the suspension has to absorb large, repeated inputs without packing down or running out of travel. Construction is monotube with externally adjustable damping, sitting on a pillowball top mount platform that allows for camber and caster correction once the car is at its new ride height. The valving philosophy is longer-stroke, higher-travel, more compliant on initial bump than the tarmac-oriented Circuit Master or Super Sport variants in the XYZ range. For the 4WD W222 specifically, the kit includes the wiring loom interrupter that allows the electronic damping ECU to be retired cleanly, which is the single biggest install obstacle on any post-2013 S Class conversion.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz S CLASS W222 4WD (2014-2020)

This kit is built for the W222 chassis in 4WD (4MATIC) form, model years 2014 to 2020, on cars fitted with the non-MBC variant of the adaptive damping system. Chassis code ME65-C. The included cancellation kit is what makes this listing different from the standard W222 part number – it is specifically for cars whose factory dampers are electronically controlled and would otherwise throw faults the moment the OE strut is unplugged.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
