XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz E CLASS W124 6 CYL (Modified Front Integrated) 1986-1995

The W124 E-Class’s near two-tonne kerb weight and multi-link rear axle were built for autobahn cruising, not for holding a line across a rutted, off-camber tarmac stage at nine-tenths. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover for the 6-cylinder W124 (Modified Frt Integrated) is set up specifically to keep that mass composed when the road surface stops behaving.

Where a fast-road coilover chases a single ride height and a single spring rate, this kit is tuned around the demands of sealed-stage tarmac rally: repeated hard compressions over crested bumps, mid-corner camber changes, and a chassis that needs to reset itself instantly for the next turn-in. It’s built for drivers running the W124 on closed-road events, not for a static show stance.

What this coilover does for your 1986-1995 Mercedes Benz E Class W124 6 CYL (Modified Frt Integrated)

On a car this heavy, unsprung mass control is everything, and that’s where this kit earns its keep. The damping and spring combination is calibrated to soak up the sort of surface irregularity a tarmac stage throws at a W124 – broken edges, patched sections, mid-corner ridges – without the body pitching or the rear axle stepping sideways. Front-end grip improves under trail-braking into hairpins because the modified integrated front mount controls dive rather than letting the nose drop and unload the outside tyre. Through fast direction changes the multi-link rear stays planted instead of squatting wide, so you can get back on the throttle earlier out of a corner. Ride height adjusts independently of preload, which matters on a saloon this size when you’re balancing ground clearance against sump protection over a rally route’s rougher sections.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally line around one job: keeping a car’s contact patches loaded on broken, uneven asphalt rather than smooth circuit tarmac. The damper’s valving is biased to soak up sharp-edged hits – a cracked stage surface, a lifted drain cover, a compression bump mid-corner – without transmitting that impact straight into the body structure, which is what causes a car to skip sideways and lose traction exactly when you need it most. That impact absorption is the whole point of the spec: less shock reaching the chassis means more of the tyre’s contact patch stays on the road, and the car holds a more settled, predictable line through a sequence of corners instead of getting unsettled by the first bump and never quite recovering. The valving and spring rates supplied with this kit come directly from XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme, not a generic fast-road baseline adapted after the fact.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz E Class W124 6 CYL (Modified Frt Integrated) (1986-1995)

This kit is specified for the six-cylinder Mercedes Benz W124 E-Class, chassis code ME46, across the full 1986 to 1995 production run, with a modified front integrated top mount configuration. Confirm your car matches the 6-cylinder specification before ordering, as this coilover is not shared with four-cylinder W124 variants.
