XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Mazda 323 1994-1998

The mid-1990s Mazda 323 is a featherweight front-driver that rewards stiffer springs more honestly than most of its peers – the standard setup runs out of damping authority long before the chassis runs out of grip. Drop a Racing Spec coilover under an MA14-era 323 and the car finally behaves like the lightweight hatch the Hiroshima engineers clearly had in mind, with body roll cut down and turn-in that no longer relies on a stab of lift-off to point the nose.

This is the most aggressive coilover XYZ Racing offer for the 323 platform, aimed at owners running the car in anger – track evenings at Cadwell or Anglesey, sprint events, or fast B-road work where the factory MacPherson struts give up after three corners. It is a circuit-first setup with road manners that an enthusiast will tolerate, not a daily-driver kit dressed up in race graphics.

What this coilover does for your 1994-1998 Mazda 323

The 323’s short wheelbase and modest kerb weight mean spring rate changes are felt immediately at the steering wheel, and the Racing Spec rates are chosen to keep the front tyre loaded through long, loaded corners rather than letting the nose wash wide. Independent 30-way bump and rebound adjustment gives you proper control over how the car takes a kerb at Brands or settles after a mid-corner bump on a rural A-road. Pillowball top mounts replace the rubber OE bushings, sharpening steering feel and removing the vague initial input that plagues a 30-year-old 323. Ride height is fully adjustable through the lower bracket so you can drop the car without binding the spring, and the increased damping range lets the chassis cope with sticky semi-slicks that would overwhelm a stock damper in two laps.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec sits at the firm end of the XYZ Racing range, built around a monotube damper body with a separate spring perch and a hardened piston rod sized for sustained track abuse. Damping is independently adjustable across 30 clicks on bump and 30 on rebound, giving 900 possible combinations to balance front-rear behaviour for whatever circuit or surface you are running. Springs are wound to higher rates than the Super Sport or Drift Spec siblings – this is not a comfort kit. The whole assembly uses pillowball upper mounts in place of rubber, which transmits more road texture to the cabin but cuts compliance under cornering loads. Construction is steel-bodied with a corrosion-resistant finish suitable for British weather, and the lower brackets are CNC-machined for repeatable height settings when you reset corner weights between events.

Fitment for the Mazda 323 (1994-1998)

This kit is specific to the MA14-platform Mazda 323 built from 1994 to 1998, covering both saloon and hatchback bodies on the front MacPherson strut layout. Confirm your chassis code before ordering, as earlier and later 323 generations use different strut geometry and are not interchangeable.
