XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mazda 323 1994-1998

The BG and BA 323’s appetite for loose surfaces is not in doubt – this is the platform that gave Mazda its rally credibility through the early nineties – but the standard suspension was never meant to survive a Welsh forest stage on repeat. The Gravel Rally coilover is the answer for owners running a 323 in the dirt rather than parking it at shows.

Mid-nineties 323s are light, short-wheelbase, and willing to rotate. What they lack is the travel and damping authority to soak up high-frequency hits without unsettling the chassis on the next corner entry. This kit gives the car the stroke length and rebound control it needs to stay planted when the surface stops being tarmac.

What this coilover does for your 1994-1998 Mazda 323

You will feel the difference in the first compression. Increased travel lets the front axle ride over ruts instead of skipping across them, so steering inputs translate into direction change rather than wheel-hop. The shock valving is tuned for sustained gravel abuse – heat fade is the killer on a long stage, and this damper is built around that problem rather than around showroom feel.

Ride height adjustment lets you set the 323 with rally-appropriate ground clearance and a meaningful sump-protection gap. Spring rates suit the lighter front of a four-cylinder 323 without overwhelming the rear, which keeps the car neutral on throttle through loose-surface bends – the trait the BG chassis was always quietly good at.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally series is built specifically for unsealed competition: forest stages, gravel tarmac mixed events, and clubman rally use. Construction is monotube with extended shock bodies to give the additional bump and rebound stroke a rally car needs over a road or circuit setup. Damping is fixed-rate, valved by XYZ for gravel-spec spring loads rather than user-tunable on-car, which removes a variable on a stage where you cannot stop to fiddle with clickers.

Spring rates are selected for rally use rather than ride comfort, and the assemblies are sealed against water and grit ingress – the failure mode that ends most non-rally-grade coilovers a stage into their first event. Top mounts and lower brackets are dimensioned to the 323 chassis directly, so the kit installs into factory mounting points without modification to the body or subframes.

Fitment for the Mazda 323 (1994-1998)

This kit is fitted to the MA14 chassis 323 produced between 1994 and 1998, covering the late BG and BA generations of the model. Confirm your chassis code against the VIN plate before ordering – the 323 ran across several distinct platforms in the nineties and the mounts are not interchangeable.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
