XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Hyundai TIBURON 1996-2001

The first-generation Tiburon (RD chassis) arrived as Hyundai’s first serious crack at a front-drive coupe, and three decades on the survivors that still see track time are running on tired OE struts that were never specified for repeated heat cycles. The Racing Spec coilover is the answer when a road-biased kit has run out of headroom – this is the rung XYZ Racing developed through direct participation in WTCC, not a fast-road compromise wearing a track badge.

For a 1996-2001 Tiburon being campaigned in time-attack, sprint, or championship-class club racing, the Racing Spec strips back the daily-driver concessions and gives the front axle the bite it needs to put a 1.8 or 2.0 four-cylinder’s torque down through a chassis that was always more willing than the factory damping let on.

What this coilover does for your 1996-2001 Hyundai Tiburon

On the RD platform, the standard MacPherson front end runs out of damper control long before the chassis runs out of grip, and the back end gets light under trail-braking in a way the OE setup simply masks with float. The Racing Spec controls both ends with circuit-derived valving, so weight transfer becomes a tool rather than a problem. Spring and damping are matched for sustained load – the kind a Tiburon sees through a fast right-hand sweeper, not a single B-road bend. You get a planted nose under braking, less mid-corner understeer than any fast-road coilover will deliver on this platform, and a rear axle that rotates predictably on lift. Ride height comes down enough to recover the centre of gravity the factory ride height gave away, without sacrificing the travel needed for kerb strikes.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec sits at the top of XYZ Racing’s circuit hierarchy and is built specifically for track race work – every setting was obtained through direct participation in racing events including WTCC. That pedigree shapes how the damper responds: the valving is calibrated for repeat lap sessions where heat soak kills lesser units, and the spring rates are biased toward consistent platform behaviour rather than initial comfort. For Tiburon owners running aggressive supporting modifications – meaningful power, slicks or semi-slicks, big brakes, aero – XYZ Racing also offers custom-made shock absorbers built to your car’s specific upgrade list and the circuit you’ll run. Supply the spec sheet and the venue, and the damper can be valved around it, the same way factory racing programmes and A-class racing cars are catered for.

This coilover is matched to the first-generation Tiburon (RD chassis), covering the 1996 through 2001 production run in both Beta and 2.0 four-cylinder forms. Confirm your chassis code in the configurator before checkout.
