XYZ Racing Pro Rally Coilovers — Honda S2000 AP1/AP2 1999-2009

The S2000 was never built with loose-surface competition in mind. Honda’s front-mid-engined roadster was a tarmac scalpel – 50/50 weight distribution, a screaming F20C or F22C up front, and a chassis that punishes mid-corner inputs the moment grip falls away. Take that platform onto gravel or snow stages and the lift-throttle rotation that defines an AP1 on a B-road becomes a genuine problem. Stage suspension has to civilise it without dulling the rev-hungry character that makes the car worth campaigning in the first place.

The Pro Rally is XYZ Racing’s competition-spec answer for AP1 and AP2 owners running gravel and snow stages. This is the Professional variant of the rally family – built on the assumption the car body has been modified to accept the longer travel and revised geometry that real stage work demands, rather than bolting into an unmodified chassis.

What this coilover does for your 1999-2009 Honda S2000

Long-travel damping is the headline. A stage-spec damper has to swallow compressions the road car never sees – jumps, ruts, deep gravel berms – then return the wheel to the surface fast enough to keep the rear axle hooked up on corner exit. On an S2000 that matters double, because the snap that the chassis is famous for on tarmac becomes a stage-ending spin on loose surface if the rear damper can’t control rebound. The Pro Rally also lifts the car to a usable ride height for unsealed surfaces, protecting the sump and giving the suspension somewhere to work.

Spring rates and valving are pitched at competition use, not road compromise. Expect a car that tracks straight over washboard, holds attitude through a long sweeper, and lets the F20C/F22C deliver power without the inside rear unloading the moment you crack the throttle open.

About the Pro Rally coilover

The Pro Rally sits in XYZ Racing’s gravel and snow suspension line, which the manufacturer splits into two distinct fitments: an Amateur kit that bolts to the original chassis, and this Professional kit which is engineered to be installed after the car body has been modified to accept it. That distinction matters – it tells you exactly what this product is. It is not a fast-road kit with longer springs. It is a competition damper sized for stage work, intended for an S2000 that has already been prepared for rally use with reinforced top mounts, revised arch clearance, and the geometry corrections a modified shell needs.

The construction is built around the loads that gravel and snow put through a damper: high-frequency, high-amplitude inputs that destroy road-derived coilovers in a handful of stages. Pick this kit if the car is being built for competition, not if it is a daily-driver looking for an aggressive ride.

Fitment for the Honda S2000 (1999-2009)

This kit is specified for the AP1 and AP2 S2000 chassis (HN47), covering the full 1999 to 2009 production run. Both the early F20C 2.0-litre cars and the later F22C 2.2-litre AP2 share the same damper fitment. Confirm your shell has been prepared for the Professional installation before ordering – this is not the kit to drop into a standard road car.

Rally gravel/snow suspensions are very professional suspensions and they are designed into two types:

1. Be installed directly with the original chassis. (Amateur type)
2. Be installed after modifying the car body. (Professional type)
