XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda S2000 AP1/AP2 1999-2009

The S2000’s chassis was built around a tarmac brief – short-stroke dampers, a stiff shell, a high-revving F20C/F22C that punishes anything less than precise inputs. Take an AP1 or AP2 onto a gravel stage and the standard suspension runs out of travel before the road runs out of corner. That is the gap the XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built to close on the HN47 platform.

This is not a re-valved fast-road kit with taller springs. It is an inverted-tube damper with the long stroke and long spring length a rear-drive S2000 needs to survive crests, ruts, and landing loads at competition pace. The lift-throttle rotation S2000 owners spend their road lives managing becomes a tool you can lean on, rather than a liability waiting for a wet patch.

What this coilover does for your 1999-2009 Honda S2000 AP1/AP2

The long-stroke layout keeps the contact patch loaded when the surface drops away under the front wheel, which is where standard S2000 dampers top out and the nose goes light. The long springs absorb chassis vibration from high-speed bouncy road sections without packing down, so the F20C can stay on cam between corners instead of unloading the rear axle every time the surface changes. Inverted tubes resist the side-load bending forces that wreck conventional struts on stage, and the spring rates have been set by XYZ Racing’s rally programme rather than guessed at on a workbench. The result, on an S2000, is a car that takes a kerb-strike or a compression and gives the steering wheel back to you, instead of skating wide on rebound.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Gravel Rally damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where the road surface punishes shock absorbers harder than any other form of competition. The inverted-tube construction is the headline engineering decision: it places the larger-diameter outer tube at the top of the damper, which carries side loads more effectively than a conventional strut and resists shaft flex over sandstone, snow, and silt. Stroke length and spring length are both extended well beyond circuit-spec norms so the damper can absorb aggressive high-speed impacts and carry the cornering G of a competition car without coil-binding. Every spring rate in the range has been signed off by XYZ Racing’s own rally team – not bench-calculated, but driven. For an S2000 owner running stage events, that means a damper engineered around the load case that actually breaks suspension, rather than one borrowed from a tarmac catalogue.

Fitment for the Honda S2000 (1999-2009)

This kit is fitted to the Honda S2000 AP1 and AP2 chassis, internal code HN47, covering the full 1999-2009 production run from F20C cars through to the F22C-powered AP2 facelift. The configurator below confirms the spring rates and stroke options available for this chassis.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
