XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Honda INTEGRA RSX DC5 2001-2006

The DC5 was Honda’s last serious hardcore Integra – a K20A screaming to 8,400rpm in JDM Type R trim, a six-speed close-ratio box, helical LSD, and a chassis that rewards commitment but punishes mid-corner bumps with a sharp inside-front unload. On a stage with broken tarmac, crests, and compressions taken flat in fourth, that becomes the limiting factor long before the engine does. The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover is built specifically for that environment – sealed-surface rally where the car still sees kerbs, drainage scars, expansion joints, and the occasional gravel cut.

Where a circuit coilover prioritises platform stiffness for sustained cornering loads, this Tarmac Rally spec is tuned to absorb the strike of a big hit and recover the contact patch before the next apex arrives. For DC5 owners running closed-road events, hillclimbs, or the rougher end of the UK trackday calendar, that is the meaningful difference.

What this coilover does for your 2001-2006 Honda Integra RSX DC5

The DC5’s factory dampers run out of stroke quickly under hard compression, and the standard spring rates were never written for repeat impacts at pace. Swapping to the Tarmac Rally setup gives the front axle the travel headroom to ride through a mid-corner bump without lifting the inside wheel, which is what costs you the K20’s drive out. Body control tightens on turn-in, but the chassis stops skipping sideways when the surface gets choppy – the rear stays planted under trail-braking instead of stepping out unpredictably. Ride height is fully adjustable so you can set a sensible rally ride height (taller than circuit, lower than stock) without losing geometry. On a fast B-road run between stages, the car feels composed rather than nervous, which is the harder thing to achieve at this end of the suspension market.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally damper is engineered around impact absorption rather than pure platform stiffness. It is built to take the jolt of a big bump – the sort of hit that would bottom a circuit coilover or unsettle a fast-road damper – and bring the body back under control without rebounding the tyre off the surface. The valving is intended to suppress secondary chassis movement after the initial strike so the contact patch is reloaded quickly, which is where stage time is found on broken tarmac. Traction across rippled surfaces is the design priority, with vehicle stability through compressions and over crests the second-order benefit. The settings come directly from XYZ Racing’s own Tarmac Rally programme, not adapted from a road or circuit damper, and the construction is sized for the repeated heat-cycling that comes with full-stage running. For a DC5 going up Shelsley, doing the Manx, or running on a closed forest stage with a smooth-tarmac surface, this is the use-case the damper was written for.

Fitment for the Honda Integra (2001-2006)

This kit fits the DC5 Integra Type R / RSX chassis from 2001 to 2006, covering the full UK and JDM production run. The DC5 uses a strut front and multi-link rear, and the coilover is built to that hardware – no fabrication required. Confirm your chassis code reads DC5 on the V5 or build plate before ordering.
