XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Honda CRV IV 2012-2016

The fourth-generation CR-V is not the obvious starting point for a serious circuit build, and that is precisely why the Racing Spec coilover exists for it. This is a tall, 1.6-tonne crossover with a high roll centre and softly-sprung MacPherson front geometry tuned for school-run compliance – qualities that quietly resist the kind of body control a track day demands. The Racing Spec attacks those exact weaknesses.

For owners running the RM-platform CR-V in time-attack, track-day, or one-make support series – and there is a small but committed scene doing exactly that – this is the kit that brings the chassis into a window where camber gain, weight transfer, and corner-entry rotation can actually be tuned, rather than fought.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2016 Honda CRV IV

The CR-V IV’s standing ride height and softly-valved factory dampers mean that even moderate kerbing or a deliberate trail-brake input upsets the front end long before the tyres are at the limit. Sitting the car down on a properly-valved coilover transforms initial turn-in and gives the front Yokohamas or Toyos a chance to actually load up. Bump absorption over kerbs becomes deliberate rather than reactive, and the rear stops squatting under power on corner exit – meaningful when you are trying to put 190bhp through a tall wagon. Brake dive into a fast braking zone is the other big win: the nose stays settled, the contact patch stays flat, and the ABS threshold moves higher in the pedal travel. None of this matters on a Sunday drive. All of it matters from the third lap onwards.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec damper is built specifically for circuit race work, with valving and spring rates derived directly from XYZ Racing’s participation in WTCC and similar tin-top championships. This is not a fast-road kit with stiffer springs – it is a track damper, and the settings reflect lap-time data from real race weekends rather than ride-quality compromise. XYZ also offers a custom build route on the Racing Spec platform: if your CR-V is running heavily-modified aero, a non-standard powertrain, or you are targeting a specific circuit, you supply the spec sheet and they will valve a bespoke set of shocks to suit the upgraded car and the circuit you intend to run. That option is normally reserved for factory-supported race vehicles and A-class machinery, which gives a useful sense of where this damper sits in the range.
