XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Honda CIVIC EP2/EP3 2001-2005

The EP3 Civic Type R arrived in the UK as a hot hatch the factory had already half-prepared for a track licence: short-throw shifter on the dash, K20A2 screaming to 8,000rpm, and a chassis that rewards commitment on turn-in. What it never had from Honda was damping that could handle a full session at Cadwell without the rear getting nervous over kerbs. The Top Sport coilover for the EP2/EP3 platform is built specifically for that gap – the owner who runs trackdays five or six times a year and still drives the car to work on Monday.

XYZ Racing has set this kit up with damping roughly 30 to 50 percent firmer than the street baseline, with spring rates lifted by around 2kg/mm. On a kerb-weight Civic that translates to a front end that holds its line through Druids without diving onto the bump stops, and a rear that stays planted when you trail-brake into a hairpin.

What this coilover does for your 2001-2005 Honda Civic EP2/EP3

The EP3’s strut-front, double-wishbone-rear layout is famously communicative, but it also tramlines on B-roads and bobs over motorway expansion joints once you start working it hard. Lifting spring rate and damping in a coordinated package – which is what these coilovers do – calms the secondary ride without killing the sharpness that makes the K20 chassis special. Body roll through fast direction changes drops noticeably, so the front tyres stay loaded squarer to the road and the inside-rear stops lifting on hard exits.

You also get height adjustment, which matters on the EP3 specifically because the standard ride height is genuinely tall and the wheel arches swallow anything sensible. Dropping the car onto the Top Sport setup tightens the centre of gravity and pulls the geometry back into a window where camber and toe actually do something useful. The result is more usable tyre contact under brakes, faster turn-in response, and a meaningfully calmer car at motorway speed.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport sits in XYZ Racing’s catalogue as the bridge between fast-road and circuit-only kits. Spring rates run roughly 2kg/mm above the equivalent street setting and damping is wound up by 30 to 50 percent, which is enough to absorb the jolt from big surface changes – kerbs, rumble strips, broken tarmac on a typical UK circuit access road – without transmitting every shock into the cabin. The brief is to keep the car composed when the surface gets ugly, suppress body movement so the tyre stays in contact, and increase mechanical grip under load.

XYZ has drawn the settings on this kit from their own Top Sport racing programme, so the valving reflects what the brand’s drivers actually wanted on track rather than a generic spreadsheet. It is built for aggressive driving and trackday use, not for stance shows, and the damping curve reflects that.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC EP2/EP3 (2001-2005)

This kit fits the EP2 and EP3 chassis Civic across the 2001-2005 production window, covering both the standard EP2 hatchback and the EP3 Type R. Confirm your chassis code matches before ordering – Honda used the EP designation across multiple variants in this period.
