XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Honda CIVIC EF CRX SINGLE CAM (Rear EYE) 1989-1991

The EF-generation Civic and CRX sit on a chassis that the time-attack scene has been picking apart for thirty-five years, and the Rr EYE rear-mount variant is the one that rewards a properly built damper. Lightweight, short-wheelbase, double-wishbone front and rear – the platform reacts to spring rate and damping changes in ways modern MacPherson hatchbacks simply do not. Get the corner balance right and an EF will carry mid-corner speed that embarrasses cars with twice the power.

XYZ Racing’s Racing Spec coilover is the kit you fit when the EF or CRX is no longer a weekend project – it is your time-attack car. This is the top of the XYZ ladder, drawn directly from the company’s WTCC programme, and it assumes you already know what spring rate you want and why.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1991 Honda Civic EF CRX Single CAM (rr EYE)

A featherweight EF chassis on a Racing Spec damper finally stops fighting itself under hard braking into a hairpin – the front end loads progressively instead of crashing onto its bumpstops, and the rear stays planted enough to let you trail-brake without the back stepping out unannounced. Independent compression and rebound adjustment means you can run the stiff spring rates a 900kg car genuinely needs for a circuit without making the damper a passenger over kerbs.

Ride height is set on threaded lower mounts so corner-weighting is a real exercise, not an approximation. Camber plates up top let you chase front-end grip without lecturing the geometry shop every visit. On a CRX in particular, the weight loss off the nose lets the Racing Spec breathe in a way a heavier saloon never quite allows – turn-in becomes immediate and the chassis stops asking for permission.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec is built specifically for circuit competition, and XYZ have derived the valving from direct participation in WTCC. It is not a road-biased coilover with stickers on it – it is a track damper with damping characteristics validated against full race usage. Construction follows the XYZ race-product convention: monotube body, separate compression and rebound circuits, threaded lower for ride height, pillowball top mounts where the geometry suits.

The kit is also offered as the starting point for custom-spec builds. If the EF is running aggressive engine work, sticky semi-slicks, or a specific circuit profile, XYZ will valve and spring the dampers to suit – this is the same workflow that supports A-class racing cars and factory-style builds. For most fast EFs and CRXs the standard Racing Spec spec sheet is enough; the customisation route is there if your car genuinely needs it.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC EF CRX SINGLE CAM (Rr EYE) (1989-1991)

This kit fits the EF-chassis Honda Civic and CRX Single CAM with the Rr EYE rear-mount damper configuration, model years 1989 to 1991, factory chassis code HN10. Confirm your rear damper mount style before ordering – the EF generation was sold in both eye-mount and fork-mount rear configurations and the kits are not interchangeable.
