XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda CIVIC EF CRX SINGLE CAM (Rear EYE) 1989-1991

The EF-generation CRX is one of the lightest cars Honda ever sold in the UK, and on a loose surface that featherweight kerb mass is the chassis you want under you – provided the dampers can keep the wheels in contact with the ground when the road goes away. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Honda Civic EF CRX Single CAM (Rr EYE) is built specifically for that brief: gravel stages, rallycross heats, and the kind of loose-surface abuse that destroys a fast-road damper inside one event.

This is not a lowering kit with stiffer springs. It is an inverted-tube, long-stroke rally damper sprung and valved by XYZ Racing’s rally team programme, intended for cars that spend their weekends sideways on sandstone, snow, or silt.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1991 Honda Civic EF CRX Single CAM (Rr EYE)

On the EF CRX the rear-eye mount makes damper selection a fitment-specific job – generic Civic coilovers don’t bolt up – so a chassis-correct rally damper matters before you even talk about spring rates. The long stroke lets the wheel travel deep into a compression hit without coil-binding or topping out, which on gravel is the difference between traction and a moment of unloaded silence followed by an off. The inverted-tube construction puts the larger-diameter outer body at the top, stiffening the strut against the side-loads that loose-surface cornering and stage-jump landings throw at it. Long springs hold the car off the bump-stops over washboard sections, so the CRX’s quick steering rack still has weight on the front wheels when you turn in. The result is a car that stays settled when the surface stops cooperating, instead of skipping wide on every mid-corner ridge.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper for rally and rallycross use, which they treat as the most aggressive road condition the catalogue has to cover. The inverted-tube layout is the headline engineering choice – it’s there to survive lateral abuse that a conventional twin-tube would shrug off on tarmac but flex under on gravel. Long stroke and long springs are paired to absorb sustained chassis vibration, attack high-speed bouncy sections without unloading the tyres, and carry the cornering G-force a competitive stage car generates. All spring rates in the range were validated by XYZ Racing’s own rally team programme rather than chosen off a fast-road spreadsheet, so the baseline setting arrives already inside the window a rally driver would set up to. It’s a rally damper first, with everything else – ride quality, cosmetic finish, daily usability – subordinate to surviving the stage.

Fitment for the Honda Civic EF CRX Single CAM (Rr EYE) (1989-1991)

Chassis-specific to the EF-generation Civic CRX with the single-cam engine and the rear-eye damper mount, model years 1989 to 1991. The rear-eye mounting is the detail to confirm against your car before ordering – it is the variant this kit is built for, and other EF CRX rears use a different lower mount.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
