XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Ford MAV 2001-2007

The Ford MAV is an unusual rally proposition – a compact MPV-derived platform pressed into stage duty – and the demands a loose surface places on its suspension are nothing like tarmac. Sandstone, snow, silt, washed-out ruts and the inevitable hard landings after a crest all happen in the same stage, and the damper has to cope with every one of them without packing down. That is the brief this XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built around.

XYZ developed this kit specifically for rally and rallycross use, where the road surface is the most aggressive in motorsport. Long-stroke inverted dampers, long springs and rates tested in actual rally competition – this is not a fast-road coilover with a softer setting dialled in, it is a stage damper from the ground up.

What this coilover does for your 2001-2007 Ford MAV

On gravel, the immediate change you feel is that the car stops running out of travel. The long-stroke design soaks up the worst of the high-speed bouncy sections without the chassis crashing into the bump stops, which is what kills confidence over a rough stage. Under braking into a loose hairpin, the inverted tube construction keeps the damper working when the lateral and longitudinal G-forces stack up – the unit resists deflection better than a conventional twin-tube. Spring rates have been set by XYZ’s rally testing programme, so the MAV sits balanced enough to rotate on lift but stays planted when you commit. The result on stage is a car that uses its full suspension travel intentionally rather than randomly.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This is XYZ’s dedicated rally and rallycross damper, and the construction reflects that brief. The inverted tube layout was developed specifically to handle the breadth of gravel-stage conditions – sandstone, snow, silt – where the damper has to deal with both fine particulate ingress and severe shaft side-loading. Long stroke and long spring length together give the suspension room to absorb a chassis vibrating at high frequency over washboard, and enough reserve to survive landing off a crest under heavy G. Spring rate settings on every fitment have been validated by an XYZ-affiliated rally team rather than picked from a catalogue, which is why the rates differ noticeably from the same brand’s tarmac kits. It is a stage tool first.

Fitment for the Ford MAV (2001-2007)

This kit fits the Ford MAV, chassis code FO12, across the 2001-2007 build years. Spring rates and stroke length are set specifically for this platform’s weight and geometry. Confirm your chassis code before ordering if you have a borderline-year car.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit
