XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Ford LIATA 1994-1998

The Ford Liata is a featherweight kei-class saloon that almost nobody outside Japan remembers, and that scarcity is exactly why the owners still running one in 2026 take the chassis seriously. Light cars reward suspension that controls body movement without bludgeoning the structure, and a sealed-stage tarmac rally damper is the right tool for a car that needs grip from a small contact patch and composure over expansion joints, ruts and patched apex kerbs.

The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover for the Ford Liata (FO11, 1994-1998) is built for that brief. It is a stage-spec damper tuned for sealed surfaces, not a fast-road kit pressed into rally duty, and the valving reflects the kind of repeat high-frequency hits a tarmac stage throws at a car the size of a Liata.

What this coilover does for your 1994-1998 Ford Liata

On a chassis this light, every kilo of unsprung control matters, and the Tarmac Rally valving is set up to keep the tyre planted when the road surface stops being road. You will feel it first over mid-corner bumps: the body stops skipping sideways and the front end keeps tracking the line you asked for. Across compressions and crested kerbs the damper absorbs the jolt instead of passing it through to the shell, which on a 1990s monocoque is the difference between a confident second pass and a tentative one.

The result on the Liata is more traction in the slow stuff, less head-toss over rough sections, and a chassis that finally lets you commit to a line on a broken surface. Stability under braking improves too, because the damper is controlling shock body movement rather than letting the nose pitch and unload the rears.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is engineered specifically for sealed-stage rally use, where the surface is paved but rarely smooth. The damping settings carry over directly from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme, so the curves are built around real stage data rather than generic fast-road assumptions. The job of the damper here is twofold: absorb the impact of uneven pavement, and suppress shock body movement to keep the tyre loaded through the strike and recovery.

That last part is what separates a rally damper from a track damper. On a circuit you tune for steady-state load. On a stage you tune for transient hits, one after another, with no recovery time between them. The Tarmac Rally is built around that compromise – enough compliance to swallow a sunken drain cover at speed, enough control to keep the car pointing where the co-driver said it should be.

Fitment for the Ford Liata (1994-1998)

This kit fits the Ford LIATA, chassis code FO11, model years 1994 to 1998. The Liata is a low-volume platform and parts availability is the practical constraint for anyone running one competitively in 2026 – a dedicated rally-spec damper for this exact chassis is not something the aftermarket has produced in any volume.
