XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Ferrari CALIFORNIA (Both front and rear top mount are 2 holes) 2008-2014

The Ferrari California is an unlikely rally car, but that is precisely the brief here. This is XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally specification – inverted-tube damper, long-stroke body, long-travel spring – fitted to the FE04-1 California chassis with the two-hole top mount on both axles. It exists because owners genuinely do enter front-engined Ferraris into gravel-stage and rally-cross events, and the standard adaptive Magnaride was never going to survive a Welsh forest stage.

What the California gives you to work with is unusual in this context: front-mid engine layout, transaxle gearbox at the rear, and a chassis that already carries its weight low and rearward. Strip the road-biased damping and the platform underneath is a far more capable rally-stage chassis than the badge suggests. These coilovers exist to unlock that.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2014 Ferrari California

Ground clearance and compliance are the two things a road-spec Ferrari simply does not have when the surface turns to sandstone or wet silt. The Gravel Rally’s long-stroke inverted tube gives the wheel somewhere to travel when you land a crest or skip across a rut, instead of bottoming the chassis into the bump-stop. Spring rates are deliberately softer and longer than circuit kits – the goal is keeping the contact patch loaded on a surface that’s trying to throw the car away from it.

You feel that in two specific places on the California. Mid-corner, where the rear transaxle weight wants to step out on loose surfaces, the longer rear travel keeps the inside wheel planted under power. And under heavy braking into a hairpin, the front damper resists the dive that would otherwise unload the rear and pitch the car sideways before you’ve even committed to the turn.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is engineered specifically for rally and rally-cross events, which XYZ Racing identifies as the most aggressive surface conditions in motorsport. The inverted tube damper design is the headline feature – inverting the shock body increases bending strength at the piston rod and protects the working surfaces from stone strike, both critical when the car is being launched across sandstone, snow, or silt at competition speeds.

Long stroke and long spring are the geometric signature of the kit. The extended travel lets the damper absorb high-frequency chassis vibration from rough surfaces and survive the heavy compression loads of high-speed bouncy sections, while the long spring resists coil-bind under the lateral G-force generated when the car is loaded mid-corner. Every spring rate in the catalogue is set by data from XYZ Racing’s rally programmes – this is not a road kit with stiffer springs, it is a different damper design built for a different job.

Fitment for the Ferrari California (2008-2014)

This is the FE04-1 chassis, covering the original California 4.3-litre V8 from launch in 2008 through to the California T’s introduction in 2014. Critical detail at the top of the strut: this part is for the variant where both front and rear top mounts have a 2-hole pattern – confirm yours visually before ordering, as Ferrari ran a second top-mount pattern within the same model run.

A Ferrari built for a gravel stage is a niche brief, and the Gravel Rally is the part that makes it possible – configure your spec below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
