XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Chevrolet EPICA 2006-2014

The Chevrolet Epica is an unusual platform to find on a stage entry list – a 1.5-tonne front-drive saloon with a long wheelbase, a softly-sprung GM-Daewoo chassis, and a sedate factory damping curve that was tuned for motorway cruising rather than fourth-gear corners over broken tarmac. That is exactly the brief this XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover is built to rewrite. It takes the Epica’s lazy body control and replaces it with a damper curve developed on sealed stages, where the car has to stay flat through camber changes and still soak up the crests, joins and patched repairs that punish road-biased suspension.

For a CH03-generation Epica being prepared for tarmac rally use, this is the suspension layer the chassis has always needed. The long-travel OE struts that let the front end wallow under trail-braking are replaced with a kit whose settings come directly from XYZ’s own tarmac-rally programme.

What this coilover does for your 2006-2014 Chevrolet Epica

The first thing you notice is what disappears: the secondary float over expansion joints and the slow recovery after a mid-corner bump that used to upset the front tyres mid-load. The damper is tuned to absorb the harder impacts a rally surface throws up – kerb strikes, broken edges, crowned crests – without packing down or transferring the hit straight to the chassis, so the front tyres stay loaded and keep biting. On the Epica’s nose-led layout, that translates into a front end that finally turns in cleanly under braking, with less of the understeer push the standard car runs into the moment the road surface deteriorates. Body roll is contained enough to keep the outside front tyre square to the road, and the increased mechanical grip lets you carry meaningful corner speed without the chassis going light over the next undulation.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is the specific damper in the XYZ Racing range developed for sealed-stage rallying, where the surface is paved but rarely flat. Its job is to absorb the jolt of large bumps and broken pavement, suppress the secondary shock that travels into the body, and keep the tyre contact patch loaded through the worst of the surface. The settings are not theoretical – they are pulled directly from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac-rally experience, where the same damping curves were run on competition cars on stages of comparable surface quality. That bias toward absorbing impact rather than resisting it is what separates a tarmac rally damper from a circuit coilover: the spring and damper rates have to allow enough travel to swallow a bad joint without unloading the inside wheels through the next bend. The result is a coilover that increases tyre traction over uneven surfaces and gives the driver predictable, repeatable behaviour over terrain a track-day damper would skip across.

Fitment for the Chevrolet Epica (2006-2014)

This coilover kit fits the CH03-generation Chevrolet Epica saloon across the full 2006 to 2014 production run. It is the Tarmac Rally specification in the XYZ Racing catalogue, built around the Epica’s strut dimensions and front-drive layout. Confirm the year and trim against your V5C before configuring.
