XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — BMW 6 SERIES E64 8 CYL 2004-2010

The E64 6 Series is a two-tonne V8 grand tourer never meant to see a gravel stage, which is exactly what makes a Gravel Rally coilover conversion an interesting build rather than a bolt-on upgrade. Standard road dampers on this chassis are tuned for smooth motorway compliance, not repeated high-speed compression events over sandstone, washboard ruts or loose silt. This kit swaps that road-biased setup for inverted-tube dampers with long-stroke travel built specifically for the abuse a rally surface throws at a heavy V8 coupe.

Where the factory suspension folds under sustained G-force through a fast rally corner, this coilover is built to keep the E64’s 8-cylinder mass controlled when the road disappears from under it.

What this coilover does for your 2004-2010 Bmw 6 Series E64 8 CYL

The long-stroke, long-spring architecture gives the E64’s suspension enough travel to soak up chassis vibration from sustained rough-road contact rather than transmitting every hit straight into the body. On a car this heavy, that matters more than on a lightweight rally hatch – there’s more mass trying to keep moving after every compression, and the extended stroke buys time for the damper to control it before the next impact arrives. The inverted-tube design also changes how the damper copes with side-loading from ruts and camber changes, which is a real factor on a wide GT chassis running gravel-spec ride height. Aggressive direction changes and high-speed bouncing on loose surfaces load the E64’s suspension with G-forces the standard setup was never spring-rated for; this kit is built around spring rates specifically tested for that load case rather than road use. The net effect on the car is a chassis that stays composed when the surface turns to sandstone, snow-pack or silt instead of pattering and pogoing through it.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally line is purpose-designed around one brief: rally and rallycross competition, where road surface is the most demanding condition any of their damper ranges has to survive. The core of the design is an inverted-tube damper body, chosen specifically because it copes better with the mixed loading of sandstone, snow and silt than a conventional upright tube. Stroke length and spring length are both extended beyond road or track-day coilover norms, giving the damper the travel needed to absorb chassis vibration from continuous rough-road contact and to resist bottoming out when a high-speed bounce loads the suspension hard. That extra travel is also what lets the kit bear the extreme G-forces generated when a car turns hard on a loose surface, where lateral and vertical loads arrive together rather than in isolation. Every spring rate offered in the range has been validated through use by a rally racing team, rather than derived from road-car spring-rate tables – the range exists because gravel and rallycross conditions break dampers that weren’t built with this loading in mind.

Fitment for the Bmw 6 Series E64 (2004-2010)

This kit is built for the BMW 6 Series E64 (chassis code BM46), 8-cylinder engine variant, across the 2004 to 2010 production run. Confirm your specific E64 build matches this chassis code and engine layout before ordering, as coilover geometry is matched to this exact fitment window.

Ready your E64 for the stage rather than the showroom – configure your Gravel Rally spec below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
