XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — BMW 5 SERIES E39 M5 1998-2003

The E39 M5 was built as a 400bhp autobahn weapon on the S62 V8, not a loose-surface car – which is exactly why fitting the XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover to one is such a deliberate decision. This is a long-travel, loose-surface damper aimed at gravel and rallycross use, and on a near-1.8-tonne front-engined saloon it rewrites the brief entirely.

Where the standard struts run out of compliance the moment a surface turns broken, this kit adds buffer travel front and rear plus a far larger reservoir of damper oil and nitrogen to cope with sustained punishment. For an E39 M5 being prepped for gravel or snow, that is the difference between a chassis that skips across ruts and one that stays planted.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2003 Bmw 5 Series E39 M5

The extended front and rear travel gives the M5’s heavy nose somewhere to go over crests and ruts, keeping the front tyres loaded when a road setup would unload them mid-stage. The increased oil and nitrogen volume means the dampers shrug off the heat that softens an ordinary shock within a few kilometres of hard driving, so the car holds its composure deep into a run. Three-way adjustment lets you set bump and rebound to the surface in front of you – more absorbent for snow, firmer for packed gravel. The net effect on a 1998-2003 M5 is a chassis that turns its considerable mass into grip rather than fighting it.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is engineered first for rally and rallycross, where loose surfaces hammer suspension in a way tarmac never does. Its defining feature is the longer travel front and rear, which widens the buffer distance and keeps the car settled when it lands or compresses hard. To support that, XYZ Racing increased the internal volume of both damper oil and nitrogen gas – more fluid and gas lets the shocks resist the temperature build-up that exhausts a smaller damper over a long run. Adjustment runs through three knobs. One quirk worth knowing: the small oil-passage design means a faint noise can occur as fluid moves through the restricted passage over big impacts. That is normal, not a fault, and the same construction is rated to take repeated circuit use without fade.

Fitment for the Bmw 5 Series E39 M5 (1998-2003)

This kit is cut specifically for the E39 M5 – the S62-engined version of the 5 Series built from 1998 to 2003 – and not the six-cylinder E39 variants, which carry different spring and damper specifications. Confirm your car is the M5 within that 1998-2003 window before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
