XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES F80 M3 (Modified Rear Integrated) 2014-2018

The F80 M3’s S55 twin-turbo six puts all of its torque through the rear axle alone, and on a loose gravel stage that means wheelspin, yaw and sudden direction changes happen faster than a road-biased coilover can react to. Add ruts, washboard and mid-corner camber changes into the mix and a car built for tarmac apexes starts to feel out of its depth within a few hundred metres of loose surface.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the BM104-chassis 3 Series M3 (2014-2018) is built around that problem rather than around lap times on a circuit. It is a damper for sandstone, snow and silt, not for a trackday sighting lap, and the spec reflects that from the ground up.

What this coilover does for your 2014-2018 BMW 3 Series F80 M3

Long-stroke travel gives the S55’s rear axle somewhere to go when a gravel stage throws a compression or a sudden dip at it, instead of the wheel skipping across the surface and breaking traction. The long spring works with that stroke to keep the tyre loaded through repeated high-speed impacts, which matters on the F80 because all of the car’s torque has only two rear contact patches to put it down through. Inverted tube construction keeps the damper’s working parts better shielded from the grit, sand and standing water a gravel stage throws up, which is a real concern on a chassis this heavy going through silt or wet ruts at speed. The result on the M3 specifically is a rear end that stays planted under throttle out of loose corners instead of stepping out the moment the surface changes, and a front end that holds its line through the yaw and camber shifts the F80’s weight transfer creates on rough ground.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This damper was developed specifically for rally and rallycross use, where XYZ Racing treats the road surface as the most demanding variable in motorsport rather than a constant. The inverted tube layout is built to cope with the way surface grip and debris change stage to stage, whether that is sandstone, snow or silt underneath the car. Long stroke and long spring length work together to soak up chassis vibration and absorb the aggressive, repeated hits a high-speed bumpy road delivers, while still holding the car’s geometry together under the extreme cornering loads a rally stage generates. Every spring rate in the Gravel Rally range has been set using data from XYZ’s own rally racing programme rather than derived from a road or circuit baseline, which is why the rates land differently to the brand’s tarmac-focused coilovers. On the F80 M3, that translates into a kit built to survive terrain the S55 chassis was never originally engineered to see.

Fitment for the BMW 3 Series F80 M3 (2014-2018)

This kit is specified for the BM104-code BMW 3 Series F80 M3, covering model years 2014 to 2018, with a modified rear-integrated setup to suit the car’s factory rear suspension mounting. Confirm your F80 M3 falls within this year range and uses the standard rear integration before ordering, as fitment is matched to this specific chassis code rather than the wider 3 Series range.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
