XYZ Racing Circuit Master Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES E36 6 CYL 1990-1998

The E36’s multi-link rear end – BMW’s so-called Z-axle – was a genuine step up from the E30’s semi-trailing arm, cutting the toe-change and axle-tramp that plagued the older car under power. But the six-cylinder E36’s factory dampers were never specified to keep that geometry working through a 20-minute circuit session, and the nose-heavy weight bias of the inline-six only adds to the load on the front struts under trail braking into slow corners.

Circuit Master is XYZ Racing’s dedicated circuit platform, built for exactly this: sustained lap-time work rather than a single fast road blast. On the E36 it gives you the range to firm up compression and rebound as heat builds in the dampers over consecutive laps, keeping that Z-axle geometry doing its job instead of degrading as the session goes on.

What this coilover does for your 1990-1998 Bmw 3 Series E36

Circuit-focused damping keeps the E36’s rear multi-link geometry consistent lap after lap, so the toe and camber gains you set at the beginning of a session are still there towards the end rather than fading as the standard dampers heat-soak. Up front, the extra compression control counters the nose-dive that the straight-six’s weight brings under trail braking, sharpening turn-in and reducing the load transfer that unsettles the chassis mid-corner. Full height adjustment lets you drop the E36’s centre of gravity for a track configuration without compromising the geometry the multi-link rear relies on, and the 9720-way damping range means the kit can be set stiff enough for slicks on a dry circuit day or backed off for a car that still sees a road-legal MOT.

About the Circuit Master coilover

Circuit Master is positioned as XYZ Racing’s flagship track damper, built off the same platform used by teams the brand supplies internationally, and it’s been developed specifically around repeated circuit use rather than one-off fast-road driving. The headline figure is 9720 damping combinations, controlled through three separate adjustment knobs rather than a single dial, giving compression, rebound and low-speed circuits that can be tuned independently for a given track and tyre. The construction routes damper oil through a small-passage design at those knobs; on rough tarmac or kerbs this can produce a faint noise from the damper body, which is a normal characteristic of the design rather than a fault, and is not something the kit is expected to exhibit as an issue on a circuit surface. It’s built as a dedicated track tool first, with road use as the secondary use case.

Fitment for the Bmw 3 Series E36 (1990-1998)

This kit is specified for the BMW 3 Series E36, chassis code BM16, covering six-cylinder cars built between 1990 and 1998. It’s matched to the E36’s multi-link rear axle and MacPherson strut front end across that production run, so confirm your car sits within this year span and carries the six-cylinder running gear before ordering.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
