XYZ Racing Super Sport Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES E30 6 CYL OE φ45 (Front Welding Modified Rear Integrated) 1982-1992

The E30’s semi-trailing-arm rear axle is the reason six-cylinder 3 Series cars still divide opinion at speed: load the back end hard mid-corner and the rear geometry changes camber and toe as it compresses, a trait BMW never fully designed out, even on the heavier-nosed 325i and 325e. The XYZ Racing Super Sport coilover is built to manage that movement rather than mask it, giving the six-cylinder E30 a rear axle that holds its line more consistently when you’re pushing on for a fast-road blast or a weekend track session.

This kit is built around the car’s factory 45mm OE front strut diameter, with a welded top mount so the damper seats directly into the existing turret rather than needing a full strut-top conversion, while the rear damper integrates into the E30’s original mounting points. That keeps the installation close to how BMW built the car in period, which matters on a chassis this old, where subframe bushes, trailing-arm mounts and strut braces are already common sources of variance between cars.

What this coilover does for your 1982-1992 BMW 3 Series E30

The Super Sport’s 36-way damping adjustment means you can soften the rear circuit for a broken B-road surface and firm it back up before a track session, without swapping components between the two. Adjustable ride height lets you correct the nose-down stance that the six-cylinder engine’s extra weight puts on the front axle, restoring a more level static attitude and, with it, more even front-to-rear weight transfer under braking. Because the front side keeps the original 45mm strut diameter and the rear stays integrated rather than converted, the changes in feel come from the damper and spring rates doing their job, not from altered geometry fighting the rest of the chassis. On a car where the standard rear suspension is already working against you in hard cornering, that control matters more than outright stiffness.

About the Super Sport coilover

XYZ Racing’s Super Sport line is built to take the harshness out of poor road surfaces without turning the car soft, which is why the damper carries 36 separate damping positions rather than a handful of coarse steps. Ride height is independently adjustable at each corner, so the E30 can be set low for a track day or lifted slightly for a daily commute without changing dampers. The construction is aimed squarely at cars that see both duties in the same week: a spec firm enough to hold up through a weekend circuit session, but tunable enough to soften again for the drive home. On a six-cylinder E30, that range covers everything from a fast road car with occasional track outings to a car that sees regular lapping.

Fitment for the Bmw 3 Series E30 (1982-1992)

This kit is built for the six-cylinder BMW 3 Series E30, chassis code BM07, covering the 1982 to 1992 production run. It’s specified for the original equipment 45mm front strut diameter with a welded front top mount and an integrated rear damper, matching the six-cylinder car’s mounting points rather than the four-cylinder layout.
