XYZ Racing Street Advanced Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES E30 6 CYL OE φ45 (Front Welding Modified Rear Integrated) 1982-1992

The E30’s semi-trailing arm rear axle is the chassis trait every 3 Series owner eventually has to manage – camber and toe both shift as the suspension compresses, which is part of why the car is loved on a trailing throttle and also why standing height and spring rate need to be right, not just stiff. On the 6-cylinder E30, with the straight-six sitting further back over the front axle than the 4-cylinder cars, that rear-end behaviour matters even more to how the car turns in and settles.

Street Advanced is XYZ’s road-biased spec, built for owners who want the car sharper on a B-road or at a track day without giving up a car they’ll drive home in. For a 1982-1992 E30 this means keeping the factory-tuned weight balance intact while giving you the range to firm the car up when you actually want it firm.

What this coilover does for your 1982-1992 BMW 3 SERIES E30

Ride height drops and stays adjustable, so you can correct the factory rake, tuck the arches, and still clear speed bumps without scraping. The 720-way damping adjustment lets you run the E30 soft enough for the daily commute and firm enough that the semi-trailing arm rear stops squatting and stepping out under hard throttle out of a corner. On the front axle, the OE φ45 strut body keeps the geometry close to standard, so the steering feel that makes this chassis a reference point doesn’t disappear under a stiffer spring rate. At the rear, the integrated shock-and-spring unit replaces the ageing factory dampers directly, which on a car this age is usually overdue on its own.

About the Street Advanced coilover

Street Advanced is the volume model in the XYZ range, developed over several seasons and run through XYZ’s own race programme before being signed off for road use. The core of the spec is 720 discrete damping positions, giving a genuinely usable spread between comfort and control rather than a handful of coarse steps. It’s built for drivers who split their time between normal road driving and the occasional track day, rather than a car that lives on slicks. Construction follows XYZ’s standard coilover format – height-adjustable body, threaded collar, and a damper tuned to work with a wider spring rate range than the factory unit ever offered.

Fitment for the BMW 3 SERIES E30 (1982-1992)

Fits the 6-cylinder E30 3 Series built 1982-1992, chassis reference BM07, with OE φ45 diameter front struts. The front requires welding-in of the lower spring perch to the existing strut housing – factor that into fitting time. The rear is a direct integrated shock-and-spring replacement for the E30’s semi-trailing arm axle, no welding required.
