On the F21, the immediate change is how much vertical wheel travel the rear axle has to work with before the damper tops or bottoms out. Long stroke and a correspondingly long spring let the unit soak up chassis vibration from a bouncy, high-speed section while still bearing the extreme cornering loads a rally car generates when it’s turned in hard. XYZ Racing’s rally team set the spring rate options through their own competition programme rather than a bench test, so the range on offer reflects what’s actually held up under stage conditions.
