XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — BMW 1 SERIES E87 6 CYL 2004-2011

The E87 130i and 135i put BMW’s iron-block straight-six well forward of the front axle, and combined with a short overhang and a comparatively light rear end, this is a chassis that steps out under trail-braking quicker than the E90 3 Series it shares underpinnings with. XYZ Racing’s Racing Spec is the top track and time-attack tier in the range, aimed at drivers who already know this car snaps rather than slides progressively and want the geometry pinned down before they add power.

Settings here are drawn from XYZ’s WTCC programme rather than a road-biased base tune, so the damping is built around holding body control through repeated hard sessions rather than a comfortable daily commute. For an E87 6-cylinder already carrying more weight over the nose than the four-cylinder cars, that firmer, race-derived baseline is what keeps front-end response consistent once the tyres and brakes are working hard.

What this coilover does for your 2004-2011 Bmw 1 Series E87 6 CYL

Lower the E87 onto Racing Spec and the immediate change is how much less the nose dives under braking into slower corners, a real problem on the six-cylinder cars where the extra engine weight loads the front suspension harder than the four-cylinder N45/N46 cars. The firm, circuit-derived damping controls that dive without needing a soft road compromise elsewhere, and because the settings originate from actual racing rather than a fast-road tune, the rear end stays planted through direction changes instead of following the nose into a slide. Corner-entry rotation becomes something you can place rather than something the car decides for you, and the reduced body roll keeps the E87’s naturally tail-happy balance from tipping into oversteer the moment you lift mid-corner.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec sits at the top of XYZ’s range and is built specifically for circuit use, with settings pulled directly from XYZ’s involvement in WTCC rather than adapted down from a road kit. Cars running heavier modifications, or built to factory works-level or full A-class racing specification, can go further still: XYZ will produce a bespoke shock absorber tune once you supply detail on what else has been changed on the car and which circuit it will run, rather than a single fixed valving covering every use case. That custom-order route exists because a lightly-modified track-day E87 and a fully-built time-attack car load their suspension completely differently, and one shared damping curve serves neither well. For most owners the standard Racing Spec calibration already covers serious lapping days without needing the bespoke process.

Fitment for the Bmw 1 Series E87 (2004-2011)

This kit is built for the six-cylinder E87, chassis code BM59, covering the 2004 to 2011 production run of the 1 Series hatchback. It is matched specifically to the six-cylinder cars rather than the four-cylinder E87 range, so confirm your engine code before ordering.
