XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — BMW 1 SERIES E87 6 CYL 2004-2011

For competitive drifting in a 6-cylinder BMW 1 Series E87, the car’s short wheelbase and rear-wheel-drive layout are an asset only if the suspension lets the driver hold an angle rather than fight it. The E87’s tighter footprint than its E90 3 Series sibling means weight transfer happens faster through transitions, and the standard dampers were never calibrated for sustained oversteer at speed.

The XYZ Racing Drift Spec coilover is built around that exact problem. It replaces the factory setup on the BM59 chassis with a system tuned to keep the car’s body settled while the rear end is loaded sideways, so the driver can set an angle and hold it rather than correcting for pitch and roll mid-slide.

What this coilover does for your 2004-2011 BMW 1 Series E87

Drop the ride height on this kit and the E87’s centre of gravity comes down with it, which reduces the body movement that upsets a drift line during high-speed direction changes. The calibrated bump stroke keeps the outside front wheel loaded rather than letting it top out under transfer, which matters on an E87 because the short wheelbase makes weight transfer more abrupt than on the longer 3 Series-based cars. The result is a chassis that stabilises through the turn instead of pitching, which is what lets the driver commit to an angle and hold it rather than chase the car. On the 6-cylinder N52/N54-engined 130i and 135i variants, where there’s genuine power to break traction, that stability under load is what turns a slide into a controlled one.

About the Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing built this coilover specifically for drift competition rather than adapting a road or circuit-track design. The core job is stabilising the car’s body while it’s cornering at speed, so the rear axle can be pushed past the point of grip without the chassis working against the driver. Ride height comes down as standard, and the bump stroke is set to match that lower ride height rather than being left at road-going settings, which is what keeps the wheel properly loaded through a slide instead of running out of travel. The combined effect is a car that holds a cleaner, more consistent angle once it’s sideways, which is the specific outcome a drift setup is judged on.

Fitment for the BMW 1 Series E87 (2004-2011)

This kit is built for the BMW 1 Series E87, chassis code BM59, across the 6-cylinder range produced between 2004 and 2011. It covers the RWD platform shared by the 6-cylinder 1 Series variants of this generation, not the 4-cylinder cars.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.
